What is IP address?

friends, Now i am doing some tasks in microworkers. after doing some tasks they ask me my IP address. To get the IP address they give a link. When going through a link there state YOUR IP ADDRESS: ...... some numbers are there. I just cut it and paste the numbers. But I am doubting whether I am doing the correct work. if anybody knows about IP address can you kindly explain me. Advance thanks.

I think you're doing it all right. IP Address is like a computer's ID when you're connected to the internet. If you copied the ip address, make sure to include the dots. For example: 222.000.111.00
But why did they asked your ip address? Don't give your ip address for non important business. Hackers can use your IP address to gain access to your computer without your permission.

thank you for this new message. I just gave what I was given by them. and I was paid for that. So I think I was correct. the numbers were like the numbers you gave.

You can get the details of ip address here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address .It provides the detailed information about ip address.
There are many tools available to check the speed of the internet.If you need check the speed of internet at http://www.ip-details.com/ .

Find "command prompt" on your computer. If you have Windows XP, there is an option on your start menu that says "run". Select that and type "cmd" in the box. A box with a black background will come up. That is the command prompt box. Type this exactly: ipconfig
Then hit enter. Voila! There is your machine's IP address.

Hi johnpillai, nice to know you are doing some tasks. IP Address means Internet Protocol, our internet provide will give us some numerical label for identification through their server. It will be benefited in many ways.

IP is short form of internet protocol. it is unique for a network. this is provided by your ISP (internet service provider). this can be used to locate your PC.

A IP-addres, you can see it as the name of the computer where it is standing. If u go to a site that is only for usa people than can only come people that have a Usa ip-addres on that site! U can change your ip adress by your internet provider but u cant get a ip adress from another country, but i u really want to go on pages than u must use a proxy server. A proxy server send your internet stuff to another place in the wold and than to the website it is look like u have another ip for the site!
