wonton soup for lunch - wonton soup not filling

Is soup really filling? I’ve just had my lunch of wonton soup not over an hour ago, and I’m already hungry. I don’t usually have soup for lunch, but I thought I would try it today because it was a bit cold outside. It seemed like a perfect complement. But I don’t think it is working for me. Even though the large soup that I had, had about 10 wontons on it, I’m already feeling hungry. So, does soup cut it for you? Would it be a good lunch for your? Or was it just my poor choice of the soup? Are there other soups that is more filling?\ Or is it just me? Am I just turning into a p!g and couldn’t satisfy my hunger all the time?

There is a huge China Town in the city where I live, and there are many excellent restaurants serving a variety of delicious dishes. I often visit China Town for lunch and dinner. And, I have to say, wonton soup is one of my favorites. That goes well with other main dishes.

Hello there greenline. Right from your response I see that although you also enjoy wonton soup for lunch, you don't just take it as is. You still have 'other main dishes' that you eat it with. Which should have been the case for me. So as not to make me hungry again after a few hours. Thanks.

i love wonton soup but its not really that fulling. when we have homemade soup, we always make bread to go with it. i am actually making beef barley as we speak.

I can have some of that beef barley? I actually love toasted, garlic bread. And I was thinking that would be a nice pair for any kind of soup. Except wonton of course, as it just doesn't look like it matches. Thanks cher.

I usually don't eat soup for lunch. I think that wonton soup would definitly be more of an appetizer than a meal. A beef stew or chicken noodle might be more filling. I like a good cheesy potato soup too. I have had soup for dinner but it usually has a bunch of stuff in it to fill you up...don't worry...it's not just you.

I also thought that it was just an appetizer, but when I saw how big the bowl was, I thought to myself, that it either an appetizer for a bunch of people, or a whole meal in itself. And because there was only me, I picked the latter. And I was wrong. I would like to get some cheesy potato soup right about now.

For me it really depends on the kind of soup that we are talking about whether or not it is filling for me. I tend to think that more broth based soups aren't all that filling, but soups that are more hardy are quite filling. I will eat chili or vegetable soup quite frequently during the winter as a meal and that will keep me full for hours. However, if I eat something like chicken noodle soup I am starved just a short period of time later.

Actually, when I was eating the soup, I kept thinking that except for the wontons floating around, the soup itself looked just like a broth. And then I had doubts that it would actually fill me up. It's cold outside, and a chili soup sounds really good right about now.

Hello i am J_J!Itell you that it is always a wrong step to choose a wonton soup when you're feeling hungary....Medically it is aways recommended to take higher percentage of carbohydrates during hunger...The soup has a hot boody taste and it can save you from feeling too much cold but it is not enough to take it to remove a hunger...I think that if you do like soup so much then i will recommend you to take a chicken vegi soup with a higher percentage of chicken... Thankyou!

Hello J_J. I've gathered that. That the wonton soup is just not enough. And that next time I would pick something with a lot more meat on it. Just like a chicken vegie soup. Thanks for the tip, and welcome to myLot!

every persons appetite is different. just bc you are still hungry doesnt make you a pig. it just means that you might not want to choose that kind of soup next time. soup is filling SOMETIMES for me but not all the time. wonton soup... im always hungry an hour or two later. i made potatoe soup the other day.. homemade bc its so much better... and i was stuffed after one bowl. all it had was potatoes and little bitty pieces if onion. its was awesome. just try different stuff every time and if your not sure if its going to fill your appetite then take a snack or a back up incase you get hungry later. :)

When my family goes to a Chinese restaurant, I never fill up on wonton soup.....because I think it is...well....a filler. LOL I eat everything else on the buffet. I don't think it would stay with me very long either....I would be hungry before long.

It's funny how you put Nadinest1. Wonton soup as a filler, yet not very filling for me. I'm sure there are a lot of Chinese dishes that are filling, just not this soup. Now if you're talking buffet... Then that's another story.

Hi Bounce58, wonton soups are not supposed as a main course. Usually we add noodle into the wonton soup or to order wonton soup as part of a meal consisting of rice, vegetables and soup. I think you can add the vendor to add a bit of noodle into the soup next time. Alternatively you can buy the soup home, and add instant noodle into it. It makes a tasty and healthier dinner.

I was wondering about the noodle when I got the soup. Just before I got to the Chinese restaurant, I was already picturing the wonton soup on my head. My image was with noodles on it. I didn't know that I had to order extra. Maybe next time I will do that, and maybe then it would be a little bit more filling.

We happened to see some wonton wraps in chinese supermarket, and out of curiosity we bought some home and gave it a try. Well, in fact, we have no idea how to make wonton but we did our best to imagine. So we mixed some minced meat and put it in the centre of the wrap and rolled it up (yes....we rolled it up...). So strictly speaking, what we made were just some dumpling looking balls with wonton wraps. But anyway, back to the point. We boiled them in water and had them as the main course for our dinner. I think each of us ate 10~12 that evening. We didn't have anything else as company, just our 'fake' wontons, and we were absolutely full! But I guess we used a lot of meat for each 'wonton' and hence it gave that kind of filling feeling. We may try prawn flavour wontons next time.

I've actually tried a fried wonton from a vietnamese restaurant before. You dip it in some orange spicey sauce, and it was really great tasting. I think it is even better than the soup. Thanks! You just gave me an idea where to go for lunch today!

Most soups in general are filling at the moment but have a tendency to go through you pretty rapidly, leaving you yet hungrier than before. So I have a tendency when I order soup to assure that it is a bit hearty whereas it can have some potatoes and or some chopped meat and or vegetables, this way it will fill me for hours.

That would be a good tip. The next time I decide on a soup for lunch. I would stay away from the wonton, and instead pick something more hearty. And definitely one with chopped meat to help fill me up. This way I don't get hungry easily. Thanks for the tip.

have a thick creamy soup.It will keep you full for longer time. Clam chowder soup is a good choice for that.

Hello angelic123. I guess the choice of soup makes the difference. Instead of the 'watery' wonton soup, a thicker choice would be a good substitute. Maybe just have a lot of chunks on the clam chowder, and it'll be a good lunch. Thanks.

well i like soup for lunch specially on a chilli day BUT i think you should of had an egg roll or a side of something. the wonton soup is not very filling... its great but i dont think it would hold your tummy for long.

I think you're right that I should have had an egg roll. My taste buds is very discriminating. And sometimes it wants balance at everything I eat. Eating the wonton wasn't that filling because I was lacking the taste of something 'fried'. Maybe the eggroll would have quenched that craving. Thanks for responding.

Theres a lot of cholesterol in one sering of egg and it doesn't seem appetizing to eat Wanton soup for lunch. I'm a health fanatic, and eating things like too much eggs, salt and cholesterol will make me regret it. There are so many other options, as I would rather eat a sandwich. Even though the taste of the soup might be better, I think nutrition will make your body feel younger even after eating food. Theres been times where I've had lots of meat and fat and so little vegetables. After situations like those, I feel bombarded, bored and really tired. On the other hand, eating a combination of vegetables, fruits and protein has the opposite effect.

Maybe I should start eating healthy! If eating less fat and more of vegetables can ensure that I won't get bored or feel really tired at work. I'm sure it would be difficult, and it would take time, but I am at a stage in my life where I think I should start living healthy. Thanks.
