I have some sprakly red garland up from last year, going up my stairs. I liked it so much that I decided to keep it as a permanent decoration. Otherwise I do not start to decorate until I have recognized Thanksgiving. Once that is over I will start to go through my stuff to see what I need and what I don't want anymore. We don't buy our tree until a week or so before because we buy a real one and we don't want it to dry out too soon. We decorate that the night that we get it. We will then leave the tree up until it is dried up or until the new year, which ever happens first. The other decorations are pretty limited so we take them down in the few days following Christmas. One day I will be able to afford the decorations I really want and it will take hours just to undecorate my house!

i can't afford a lot of what i would like either...but i love to go through yard sales and thrift stores for decorations...you can get them a lot cheaper and most of them are still good, it's just that the people have changed their decorations and have to make room for new ones...hope your holidays are wonderful..thanks for sharing

Oh My... I don't have any put up yet. I don't even have the tree put up yet.. And to think I usually would have already have it all done by now.. I just have had a lot on my mind and been a little busy. Hopefully this weekend I will get it done. I love doing the decorating. I would decorate my neighbors place if they would let me...

I'm almost the only one around here that decorates outside the home...it's a shame, i remember when i was young a favorite pastime of my family was to just drive around at night and look at all the lights..in one neighborhood, the entire cul de sac decorated profusely. You drove in one side, and when you got to the end on the other side, there was a resident of the neighborhood dressed like santa and would give out candy canes to everyone in the car....i just can't find anything like that around here...i wish my neighbors would decorate too...happy holidays

We usually decorate right after Remebrance day in Canada, November 11th and take our stuff down shortly after New Years.
We were a little late this year on our outdoor stuff, we had to replace alot of our outdoor lighting and I had to find time to get to the store to buy, I just finished up the other day. It looks great at night.

We aren't doing lights this year. But we are doing a tree. We were going to put up the tree this weekend but hubby is out of town. So it will be next weekend. The kids want a real tree.

I just finished buying all my decorations today. I got my tree up and some of the basic decorations a couple of nights ago.
When I was a kid the decorating started right after our annual Thanksgiving trip to grandma's house.. and the trees stayed up until late January! (We had artificial trees) We always had at least 4 trees up and my mom had 2 large 6 foot trees and I always had 2 smaller 3 or 4 foot trees .. Not to mention the outside lights, angels, table runners, clothes, dishes, etc. I LOVED Christmas growing up and am excited to take my fiance back home for Christmas this year.. we went 2 years ago but missed it last year.. my first Christmas away from home
