Thoughts on having a movie spoiled for you.

I tend to really make an effort to avoid places that I know is going to have movie spoilers before I see it. Spoilers are not fun but at the same time, there are certain times where they do enhance the movie. Where it might heighten my anticipation. Not always however, there are times where I just want to go in blind. I really do think that people should avoid all media that spoil the movie until they watch it. Granted, there is sometimes a friend can get excited and ruin things before you have a chance to shush them.

I think alot of the movie trailers spoil the movie. You know as it gets closer to opening they show more and more and the next thing you know they showed all the good parts and you are left there to watch the filler. *sigh* Especially in some of the comedy movies, they show the best part in the trailer / preview and then you spend the rest of the time wondering why did you waste your money.

This is true! And of course you know why the producers do that. They show you the best bits of the movie on trailers to catch viewers attention and persuade them to watch. Funny there was this trailer I saw of a local movie, which casts together for the first time father and daughter in real life who are both popular. The trailer was sooooo long I believe they showed you the whole outline of the story and it made me wonder what else could draw people to watch it? that it's the first movie of said father and daughter? The movie was just shown recently, I think, and I have no idea how it fared in the box-office, not that I'm interested. But then yeah I do wonder, because of the see-all-of-the-movie-here trailer.

I really think that there are some people who are going to go to a movie for the absolute flimsiest reasons whatsoever. Even if they laid out the entire movie, there are still going to be an audience. If that practice starts affecting the bottom line, then there are going to be some changes. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

That is an interesting trend isn't it? You pretty much know the entire plot of the movie while watching the movie trailers. There is a lost art of giving a person enough to get their interest but not too much to not give them everything. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

When I was a kid and was watching movies on VHS with my much older brother who couldn't get his mouth shut talking about what's gonna happen next on the movie, I would turn the tv off and tell him to just narrate the story to me since it's useless for me to try to enjoy it while he's doing that. If someone is gonna do that to me now, I'd probably do the same thing aside from offering my fist to his face depending on how interested I am in the movie. When it comes to spoilers, better avoid them I agree that there are times they can add excitement and interests in the movie, but you never know what kind of spoilers you might see, and there's just so much that could totally ruin the movie for you. It's not a movie (yet) but there was a book, a whodunit, in which I flipped some pages in advance and accidentally ended up on the one revealing who the killer was, and while I still tried to enjoy how the author played it out, it still just wans't as fun, because I was still far from the point where I formulate guesses on who's the culprit and I love it when I'm able to guess it correctly on my own.

There is nothing worse than getting into the movie and watching the movie. Then someone in the back row yells out what is going to happen next. I want to turn around and slap them. One of the many reasons why I have gotten my movie viewing down to a minimum. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I find that it depends on the movie, as to whether or not knowing the ending spoils it. For mystery movies I guess that makes sense, but for most other movies I don't mind knowing the ending. I often see movies again that I saw a long time ago. Knowing the ending in those cases doesn't take away from my enjoying them again.

It is all down for the movie. The rewatch factor can also lead to how much spoilers hurt it as well. Very true. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I discovered about books turned into movies that it is better to watch the movie first and then read the book later. It's much more exciting not knowing what happens in the movie. The thing if you've read the book is - the whole movie has been spoiled for you. I appreciate that in some movie reviews, before the article is entirely laid out, there are warnings that they contain spoiler alerts. Because I love to read on movie reviews to know whether people find the movie interesting or not.

The thing about reading the book before the movie is two fold. The spoiler thing is there and I have certain expectations that I have. If those expectations are not met, then I feel myself let down and deflated. That's why it is best to go into a movie blind. And it is indeed nice when they put spoiler warnings in reviews. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

A "friend" that ruins a film isn't a friend of mine much longer! My favorite type of films have surprise endings. If someone spoiled the ending , I wouldn't see the film.

Thankfully my friends are very considerate when it comes to not spoiling movies for me. There are very little movies I actually care about and want to be surprised by, but as a rule we don't talk about a movie or a trv show unless everybody seen it, or isn't planning on seeing it at all. I get how irritated it can be to know the ending before actually seeing it.

Yeah me too. I only behave like this though if i think that the movie is worth watching on the big screen. I stay away from websites that contain spoilers too. You'll be surprised to know there are a lot of blogs out there that can ruin things for you.

Many blogs. Especially when it is hot movie, there are obviously people who are bursting to get their thoughts out and those thoughts really contained many spoilers. So it is best to trend lightly. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
