Dont you hate it when your dog does its business on your brand new carpet? On your bed? While your sleeping? Rubs its butt on your kitchen table? During thanksgiving? I know I do! but can we possibly teach them how to use a litter box and how to cover it up like cats do?

A dog that do what you said is either a small puppy or an adult dog not properly trained. A house broken dog won't ever do his duties on your carpet or, worse, in your bed. But you have to take him outside at least three times a day, first time in the morning, at noon and late in the afternoon, before going to sleep.
If you take some time to teach him he must do his duties only outside, you won't have problems.
I don't think you can teach him to use the litter box, if you wanted a pet which uses the litter box, why wouldn't you take a cat instead of a dog?

Oh, this explains why did you put that question.
If you had had a dog, you should have known that dogs don't do their business all over the house.
Now, being a cat person is quite harder to understand dog people. Me, being a dog person, I think it's a thousand times easier to take the dog outside to pee and poo. I like to go outside and I enjoy our walks.

The only time it should be permitted NOT to take your dog for walks is if it's very ill. There's no need at all to force a dog to stay outside. Dogs want to run on fields or bathe in lakes.
Dogs should be taken on walks AT LEAST three times a day, more if it's a puppy. 20-30 minutes per walk is permitable, but at least two or three times a week, you should take it on an extra long walk for about an hour.
If you don't have time to take it for a walk, why did you even get a dog? That's animal cruelty. You should never get a dog unless you can give it water, food, walks, activities and company. It's not a toy.

My sister managed to get her dog to do his business in a litter tray. She was forced to do it becasue when her was a puppy, her dog refused to go outside in the rain, so she had to think of another way to stop him just going wherever he wanted in the house on a rainy day. I am not sure he covered it up because that couold get a bit messy, but yes, you certainly can teach a dog to 'go' in a litter tray.

I've had 5 dogs in my home over the years. I never had that problem. I did have an adoptive parent of one of our puppies call me wanting to know the same thing. I told him not to bother. Unless something is going very wrong with this dog, dogs won't contaminate their living space with feces. That includes a litter box.

I've never had pets but as I see dogs don't use litter boxes. They make you some troubles when they are babies. After that they get used no to do their business in the house and wait you to walk them outside. But I don't know how you do the training.
