Although United always starts back-footed early in the season, they still managed to catch back and eventually win the league. Usually at the end of November and early December the fixtures start to pile up, as United and the top flight teams are involved in Champions League, Europa League, and other competitions. I believe this is the turning point as the players are tired for tight schedule. Being number one on 1st December I believe is a good point as it gives pressure to the other teams racing for the title, for they thought tight schedule will affect United. And that pressure to maintain the top spot makes United the best team in the world, and eventually win them the league.
