I just cannot believe it! I called K-mart just now to see if we could extend our lay-away til the 3rd just as we had discussed with the Layaway Department when we set it up back the beginning of November. We told them we only get money once a month because my daughter and I are both on SSD so we get it around the 1st, mine goes into my checking account on the 3rd of each month. The Layaway guy said to just call on the 22nd when the first payment comes due and let them know and they will note on the account and extend it until the 3rd of December. So I call them today, ever proactive, and they said their rules had changed and the manager was really coming down heavy on them to not extend layaways. So I asked to talk to the manager. I wait and wait. Finally she comes on the phone, I explain to her and she says I have to call back tomorrow and talk to the store manager because she is just the daily manager. OMG!!!! This means my grandson's Christmas goes down the tube if the manager tomorrow says they can't do it. I am so upset! Between this and Housing I am about ready to have a breakdown. Hopefully the guy tomorrow will be nice and let us extend it. I probably won't get it but I will try.I AM SOOOOOO UPSET!!!! Have you ever had something like this happen to you? How did you make up for a child's holiday if you can't get the things you had on layaway? If you hear something on the news about a woman that goes postal at K-mart you know who it is.

omg, cant believe they can be so calous. you know they have already had a lot of failure and been pretty well pushed out by walmart. much less bankruptsy etc. id make sure i tell them im not going down easy on this. tell them you will take it to the media. the very least they should do is give back the money you already gave them so you can go get him some other stuff.

Hope this idea helps for the future should another situation like this happen, God forbid. If it happens again, get you money back and then open ANOTHER lay away account and put down the money you already had on it. It changes the due out date to work out in your favor! The downside is, if you got the item on sale chances are it won't be on sale that day so the store has us one way or another but are they willing to lose a sale?

OMG is right! I talked to the store manager this morning(no sleep) and he said he didn't understand why the original guy had told me they would work with me. I was thinking he wasn't going to let us wait. Then he said he would and I was so releived. First year I did this in ages and this. Along with the Housing crap I was pretty upset. I would taken it to the media and made sure they gave us their money back. Ugh! I hate dealing with people. I just cannot handle the stress. Luckily this worked out. I am so excited to see the look on my grandson's face when he gets his brandnew Nintendo Limited Edition DSI. Mario Brother's. And we got him some Legos that he will love too. SOme other stuff but this is going to be so fun for him this year. Thanks for your response. Appreciate your thoughts.

I do not want to hear about you going postal in the store, dear. If the things you have on layaway go back to restock, then they have to give you the money back you have already paid in, unless the have some kind of a restocking charge. You take that money, and go buy the stuff outright on the day yu get your check. I do remember one year my Mom and Dad had put a special sweater on layaway for me, and she had even made a special skirt to go with it. They "lost" the layaway, and so I do not know what ever happened about the money. I know my mom made me a blouse to match the skirt, though.

That's a nice story. I hope we get this straightened out tomorrow. And I would expect to get the money back but I don't think they have to give it back to us. I will try to do that. I just hope it all gets straightened out. I wanted so to get him a special Christmas this year and can't afford to pay for everything if we didn't do it this way. I am pretty upset about the whole thing.

I don't really know how layaway plans work but I do hope that the manager sorts things out for you and you either get the extension or get your money back. I'm guessing that as long as the item is not too much "in demand" that they are running low on stocks, they should allow you the extension. It's still a much better deal for them because they are sure of this sale albeit being delayed. Good luck!

hiu celticeagle oh dont go postal wow. I know the feeling. I get a gift each year at Christmas time of one hundred dollars. two years ago I depoisted the hundred dollar bill in the atm with my debit card. I was panning on using that to pay an internet bill at Lane bryant of several item I wanted to send for but I needed o have that one hundred dollars safely deposited.so I get my bank statement balance ten d ollars and some cents. my jaw dropped. and I grabbed the phone dialed the 8oo number and talked to a snippy woman. I told her the bank had made an error as I had deposited a one hundred dollar bill but was credited with just ten dollares. she snipped our bank rarely makes errors do you wnat to dontest this and I snapped back, of course I want all of my one hundred dollars. so she goes into this speil of what information I must give here and sick of her I ask to talk to the male manager. he treated me with utmost courtesy. we got the paperwork done and he dropped the'bedws it will take about three weeks to check all this out. but because he had been so courteous I agreed to wait and watch. meantime the clothes on sale went off sale bugt I still found some things I liked when the90 dollars was put back into my checking account. At least the male clerk agreed that anyone can make a mistake.

I would be lived. Years ago when I was very young and innocent I had a checking account and they did just the opposite. I found about #150 extra in my account. I called and told the bank. They checked and said everything was as it should be. it was sort of a weird deal. I was being honest and there was nothing they could do. They said to hold it in my account and if they found any discrepancy they would get back in touch with me with in a certain amounf of time. They never did. A once in a life time situation. I wouldn't really go postal but I would be very upset. I did talk to the store manager today and he okayed us waiting until the 3rd. I was relieved. At first he sounded like he wasn't going to do it. I believe things happen in threes too so I am waiting for the other ball to fall. Ugh! I want to hybernate like the bears. They have it right.

I have never mucked with lay-a-way just for that reason. I am never sure if something will come up and my legally-binding promise to make a payment will be impossible for me to do. I really would have thought, in this world's economy, there would be some flexibility for you. As for unable to get a child(ren) what he/she wants for Xmas, that has happened to me. Since then, I have downplayed Xmas and focused much more on Birthdays. Hope you got your extension!

Mucked? I asked the Layaway people explicitly about this before we ever signed up for it. They changed their rules after the fact. I would have faught it and gotten my money back if they hadn't been nice about it. We have had some crap going down in the family and I wanted Christmas to be nice this year. I only went with the layaway because I was getting some especially expensive gifts for my grandson this year and couldn't pay for it otherwise. I think after this year Christmas won't be such a big deal anyway. I am grandma and I may go more for birthdays too. Not sure. I was thinking alot of my grandmother this year. I am even a great grandmama now.

Aww hun, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope the guy will be nice about it and will light a candle that you'll be able to provide Yule gifts for the little one. In the meantime have you signed up for the Angel Tree? I believe they are through the Salvation Army but there are several agencies that do things like this. Also check with signing up for the Marines Toys for Tots. I've never done layaway so I don't know. I'm a pay what I can person so I don't do the layaway. I have done the H*R block credit advance though. They offer it every December to those who file taxes with them. Do you file taxes? I'm not sure if you have to file with SSD but if you do file taxes you might want to check them out. If you qualify based upon your tax filings you can get up to a thousand dollar advance on your IRS tax refund in December. Last year that really helped us meet the Yule needs. This year we're blessed to be ahead and have been ordering small gifts online throughout the year so I have a few hidden in the house. I wish you all the best. Namaste-Anora

I will check into those if he won't work with us. I am usually a pay what I can too but I wan't to get him a video game player so he would have one. Hasn't as yet except when friends or my grandson-in-law lets him. It would be so nice for him since he enjoys them so much. That's what Christmas is all about right? I used to get quite a chunk back in taxes(and always did the advance option and got it the very nice day. I sure miss that!) but I don't get it anymore now that I am on SSD. I used to pay off all my bills if I had accumulated any and got Christmas and we all went and had a nice dinner. Now we have a certain amount to live on. I get alittle more than my daughter because it is my retirement as well as disablement but it comes to about $2000 a month all together. I hope I can sleep. I always get so worked up over these things. Always think the worst initially and then calm down and can think more rationally. If it is too bad I have panic attacks. Ugh!

I like your last sentence, lol! That is so funny! I didn't mean to laugh because I know you're upset. However, I've never had anything like this to happen to me. I don't blame you for being upset because I'm sure I would be, too, if it ever happened to me. I just hope that everything will work out better tomorrow. Please let us know how it goes.

I enjoy laughing and making other people laugh, too. Sometimes I don't succeed with the latter, though, lol! Laughter is the best medicine.

I think your best option would be to talk to the manager in person. Explain the situation again. He might be a nice guy and help you out,...ot be a stickler for rules....and go by the company's rules...which would suck for you. Be nice, but firm. I hope everything works out for you.

I am not going to drive all the way out there until I have enough money to pay on the layaway. The managers are different. The one I talked to yesterday is different. She was the week end manager and today the store manager will be there and she said I have to talk to him. The original people I set the layaway up with said I could just call in in lieu of coming to pay a payment and let them know we would be in on the 3rd. Hope it works out too. Thank you.
