I've known people that are collectors of everything from chickens to coins, baseball cards and probably everything in between. However, I don't think that I've ever known someone that was an avid collector of stamps. I think that the reason that I've never known anyone that was a collector of stamps is because of the fact that I don't know anyone that has the time or patience to dedicate to the hobby of collecting stamps.

Memories of childhood, cher! As a child, I was an adamant collector, and it seemed to go by the way, as I crossed the threshold. Why, I can't answer. It was an interesting hobby that cost NO money, and a lot of time was spent trying to source pen-pals from around the world (a great learning tool)so that you could add their stamp to your collection. NO internet in those days...it was always a friend of a friend! Truthfully, I do not know anyone that is a philatalist today! Cheers!

Although I may consider philately as geeky, I don't think I would mind. Specially now, with the advent of emails, a lot less people are sending letters by snail mail. Which just makes the stamps all the more valuable.
I had a collection when I was young. Although I have stopped collecting, I still kept the book. I am hoping that in a few more years the stamps in my collection could fetch me the 'big bucks'.
