Stevie Nicks, we love you but...

But it's time to give up the microphone!
You brought new life and success to Fleetwood Mac. Your Welch Witch voice enchanged us all from the Edge of 17 on. I got to see you in concert back in your heyday, and loved every minute of it!
But the years of drug abuse, the beautiful (but forced) singing voice, and just the ravages of aging have taken their toll.
The final evidence of Trouble in Shangri-La was your Trouble in Shangri-La CD. While I loved the music and the lyrics, your voice was so grating and rough it was just too hard to listen too.
A few songs worked on that CD, just as your new gravel sound worked on a few songs on Fleetwood Mac's Say You Will, but for the most part, you're voice is just gone.
Say You Will give it up! You are still a gifted songwriter, lend your lyrics to someone who can do them justice.

You are a bit tough... are you not?
You do like judging people, that's for sure.
Freedom for you... and the hell with everyone else.

Did I say there should be laws against her singing? Did I say she has no right?
All I said is that voice that was so beautiful is gone. I didn't just Her, I judged her voice.. Something we all have the right to do with any musician. In fact, that is what we musicians ask of the world everytime we put out music out there.
Where did I ever question her freedom? You did notice I put this under "Listening to Music", not "politics"... right? ;~D

Looks whose judging now. I bought both Trouble in Shangri-La and Fleetwood Mac: Say You Will. No, I haven't watched any of the songs from either on Youtube.
I'm not disrespecting Stevie Nicks as a person, in fact, I clearly said that her lyrics and music are still great.
Apparently you don't agree, that is your opinion, and I respect your right to it.

OK... The question just seemed very harsh. But now that you explained yourself, it does not seem as bad. But I am sure that if Stevie Nicks saw it, she would react the same way than I did.

If you watched the AMA Awards last night it was a perfect example of what you are saying here. They had a lot of the "Oldies but goodies".Bon Jovi was awesome (IMHO), then you had Miley Cyrus sounding like she was screaming instead of singing. Santana rocked the stage, but the lead singer was give out by the end of the song. Most of the oldies did a good job, but hey some of them need to hang up their mic's. I enjoy seeing all the groups I grew up listening to, but most of them are not ready for come backs, they need to do like me and enjoy their Grand Kid's. Happy Thanksgiving

Hey,
I know this discussion is kind of old but I just stumbled upon it and had to comment. I have been a huge fan of Stevie Nicks for many many years. I have to say that recently, I saw a video of her on youtube doing Stop Dragging My Heart around with Tom Petty. My thoughts were similar to yours. Her once very powerful voice now is showing signs of aging or something. I didn't find it unbearable but I did think...time to retire and maybe stick to writing.
