I think many people around the world don't know about Islam as a religion and believed, They just know it from news from media, and TV. I open this discussion for everyone who's have any question about Islam and the moslem. I will try to answer every question you ask in accordance with my knowledge about it. then, what do you want to ask?

Do you think 'hijab' is compulsory wear for Muslim women or it depends on individual choice? If it's a compulsory wear sanctioned by Quran then those who don't wear are not being faithful. However, if it's to be decided by individual then countries like Iran should also leave it to individual.

I think the most important are close and cover their "aurah", its seem useless when a women use hijab, but their clothes is open their "aurah". but it's more beter if they use clothes that close and cover their aurah plus use the hijab. and I think hijab to cover their aurah, and it's a duty for moslem women.

Only a head covering is compulsory in Islam together with prohibition of women showing there shape of their bodies ie tight clothing. Hence loose clothing and head scarf is sufficient at basic level. However, if she decks herself with makeup that her beauty is openly displayed then this is not permitted either. This is why the veil and other coverings came about because it allows the woman to beautify herself yet keep it private in public. This is called taqwa where optional striving to win Allah's pleasure is done. But, I repeat, in Islam, only the head covering along with loose clothing is condition for men. And remember, it does not apply to women only. Men also have observe an ordinance of loose clothing and have a lifestyle which does not attract women. They should also grow some kind of beard as this provides for a covering. They must cast their eyes down when women are present. And they must not wear perfume for the attraction of women. Invidual countries or people can only enforce the basic purdah but cannot force women to go beyond, but can encourage them as to the virtues of doing so. Iran, I do not believe goes as far as people are led to believe, though some authorities in Iran do provide fodder for the west to exploit. But the truth in Tehran is that there are many beauty parlours, and many women are free with just head scarves. Many other countries such as Jordan, Syria and Pakistan, women are free not to even wear head scarves. Yet this is rarely mentioned in the Western world. Yet many women in these countries choose to veil up. So there are a few countries who enforce strict Taliban style coverings. This is not Islamic but a freedom of choice. Islamic is only upto the head coverings.

Thanks for the clarification. Would you say that those who refuse to cover their head with scarf are disobeying Quranic injunction so that women in Jordan, Syria etc are disobeying? Btw, regarding beard of men, is it the case they should have beard or they should not shave? If it's the former then they can shave but not keep it so thick.

If you want to really learn about islam then read islamic law...It is on the internet. Women especially should read islamic law since the muslims are attempting to get this law passed to run in their communities all over the world. It is the same group of laws that advocate stoning women for crimes. It regulates every move a women makes every moment of the day. This is very important reading. The 3 largest cities in the US which allow islamic law are Dearborn, Boston and Houston...this too is on the internet.

Can you give chapter and verse to support clothing restrictions? Also, does the the Koran give the men permission to beat their wives? Can a woman divorce her husband. If so, on what grounds?

I have heard that Allah, through the Quran, as told Muslims that it's all right to lie to nonbelievers. Is that correct and if it is, how can Muslims be sure they're not being lied to?

I have heard that the Qur'an says you may lie to infidels. If lying is permitted, how do you know any of the Qur'an is true?

forester: Does it not bother you that Allah would find it necessary to lie to anyone? Can a lying god persuade a nonbeliever to believe in him? How could one ever be sure he was being told the truth? And what about the Muslim who is out of favor with Allah? Couldn't that Muslim be lied to? What makes you secure in your faith? What assurances do you have from your Quran?

hey, it's just for the enemy, not for the others who are not dangerous for moslem. this only for safety of our life. AL-Quran is holy, never doubt it.

When I was attending religious classes, my ustazah (religious teacher) told us of a story whereby a Muslim was threatened to be killed if he was a Muslim so he lied to the non Muslim that he was not a Muslim. Its only in that sense that we are able to lie. Sorry I cannot give you exact details like name of the Muslim for you to look it up. Sometimes when I attend these classes, I have to take children and its impossible to take down anything with restless children. Other than that, good Muslims always remember that Allah will caste him/her punishment on earth or after we die if/when we do against Islamic laws, such as lying. A Muslim who is out of favour with Allah is to be advised and if he/she chooses not to repent, we are to pray that he/she will see. All the more that Muslim should not be lied to because there is nothing bad in Islam to begin with and to lie about. What makes me secure in my faith is my study of Allah which is Tauhid. Tauhid is the study of characteristics of Allah. It applies to me logically. After that when I study about Islam, I see why we have to follow its practices. And the way the world is going, I see more and more why such and such laws are implemented. So even when Islam is made to be bad now, i feel secure in its faith because i see logic in the laws and practices. Assurances I have from my Quran is when I have embraced Islam and IF Allah deem me fit, i will have a place in paradise. I mention 'IF' because if Allah does not deem me fit then I am doomed to eternal hell. Only Allah is able to do that because He is able to see the hearts of man. I have answered the best i know how and i hope i have answered your questions. In case i have not, do ask some more.

Here are some questions which I think are difficult, perhaps impossible, to answer without angering Muslims, angering non-Muslims or getting into a logical mess (because you answer questions in ways that are logically inconsistent). 1 Did the holocaust happen? 2 Do the Jews need a homeland? 3 Do the Palestinians need a homeland? 4 Do the Kurds need a homeland? 5 Should women have equal rights to men? 6 Should homosexuality be legal? 7 Should polygamy be legal? 8 Is it acceptable for Muslims to use violence against other religions? 9 Is is acceptable for non-Muslims to use violence against Muslims? 10 Is it acceptable for Muslims to use violence against other Muslim groups? 11 Is it acceptable for Muslim men to marry women from other religions? 12 Is it acceptable for Muslim women to marry men from other religions? 13 What do you understand by "Holy Trinity"? 14 Should members of other religions be allowed to criticise Islam? 15 Should Muslims be allowed to criticise other religions? 16 Is it right for a man to marry a six-year-old? 17 Where is Zulquarnain's Barrier? 18 Should wars be waged according to the Geneva Conventions, what if one side won't stick to it?
