How do you know if a person is lying?

I just know. It is in the gesture like when someone does extra unnecessary movements, it is more likely that the person is lying when asked. It is in the face like when someone suddenly turns pale when confronted with an issue. It is in the eyes like there is something in it that tells you that the person is lying. It is in silence like when somebody does not say anything about something being asked. It is in creating an unbelievable story. It is in the smirk on the face when it is not even necessary. There maybe other signs. How do you know if a person is lying? Tell me.

Of all the signs that you gave, only the eye thing is correct. It's not even entirely correct. There's a scientific way of telling a lie and it's in the eyes of the person. Something that can't be faked. Every person has different behaviors so you can't just base it to their gestures, facial expressions, and what not.

well, yeah, it can be true. but i have witnessed liars, a lot of them. and probably this is the reason why i have these observations. or i just know these people.

it is truly an advantage if you know these people. most of the reasons are from selfish motives and they come in every form and degree.

Well, it's an advantage if you already know people. I can tell a lie from people i just knew the first 5 minutes. I don't need to know their tendency to do certain gestures. I just need to take a good look at their eyes. The tricky part, though, is knowing the reason behind the lies. Most of the time i don't get it.

You must be observant. I think there most people are pretty bad at lying and I can sense it too but there are some people who's eyes are cold from the day you met that, you don't even know what they are thinking.

Hi... Our face is a great reflector of all of our thoughts. It produces all the segments of our speeches. The eye, eye-brew, lips all are enough to detect a lie. Basically i can detect who is lying. have a nice day.

For me there are two ways that I am really able to tell if a person is lying to me. The first clue to me is that they aren't able to look me in the eye when they are talking about the question at hand. The other way that I can tell is that if a person is lying to me they will initially avoid the situation and when they decide to start talking about it, they are overly defensive about what is going on. Nine times out of ten, these will tell that someone is lying to you.

it's not easy you get the ability in time, you have to pay attention to the expression of the person without alarming them about what your trying to do, but sometimes the changes are not accurate someone may get shocked for being blamed on something they didn't do and react like they might have done it while others have such high levels of confidence that a lie may seem like the truth to the observer ,yet there's still a way ,maybe search the net,i did the best i could!!!

i have to agree that there are people who are used to lying that the act is so simple to them.

if he or she does not look on you straight in the eye..... thats lying... he or she look sideways when talking to you.... and he or she has watery hands and shaking hands and has a feeling of perspiration....

If it were a a test maam honestly i would answer all of the above, but still very difficult to answer, maybe thats why they invented the lie detector test lol

Even with the lie detector test , some former KGB operatives can get over that by controlling breathing, thereby cheating the system. OMG the question is very hard to answer

Hi Bingskee, All of the things you mentioned do indicate that a person could be lying. Another way to know is to make note of the size of the person's pupils when they first start talking. It's best if you notice this before they are asked a question or begin to lie. As they talk their pupils will become smaller if they are lying. If they are telling the truth then they will stay the same or grow larger. It's kind of like our built in little lie-detector.

hello bingskee! i agree with what you have listed herein, as some of the signs of a person who is lying. If i can add to that, i would say that the body's posture or the direction where the body of the person is facing would also give a hint if he's lying or not. The same goes with the way his head is tilt or where it's facing. You could also see it in the way he unclench or clench, flex his hands and fingers. It is in the way he either stutters in his speech or how he calmly narrates the events, clearly outlining everything and always sticking to the same story no matter how many times you make him repeat it. People who are telling the truth would sometimes makes blunder and would divert a little from their particular story, but not with the intention of telling a lie. a well-thought out lie is very organized and very descriptive. That's all i can think of for the other signs which would tell us if someone is lying or not.

I think we can watch the person's eyes. When the person is lying, his or her eyes are evasive,it shows that the person does not say the truth.Another signal for lying is that the person who is lying usually touch his head by hand.

Hi bingskee, I believe you are referring to instant realisation when a person is lying versus knowing so only after a period of time. You are right in describing all those telling signs that you mentioned. In addition - it could also be in the stammering or stuttering manner when answering. Or it is also in the very brusque manner in the answers when one queries further.

Exactly! Sometimes they may not speak as fluently as they usually are when they are telling lies. When you keep asking them questions, they would have to think of a lot of reasons to cover the truth and would like to escape from you.

yes, the more that you ask, the more that there will be more lies. you have to leave before you can do something with a liar. you would be on the losing end always with a liar. very dangerous people.

i think when the person cannot look you in the eye, thats one indication that the person is lying to you. another one is that when the person is stuttering. when the person do unnecessary movements. if you ask a question and then he/she tries to switch your attention to other matters.

i have an experience with someone who stuttered when i asked. probably an indication that what she was saying is not what he was thinking.

If a person is lying he doesn't look at your eyes and he tries to escape from them. He bites his lips or makes others nervous gestures. He starts talking in a loud voice even though it's not necessary. There are other signs that help you understand a person is lying but these I see first.

Usually I can tell right away as their stories are way too lucrative. Another sign also is that they keep talking. See when something needs to be conveyed and the person just continues going on and on that tells me something fishy is going on. No need to justify their responses as if it were the truth no extra effects is necessary.

Another factor behind lying is fear - fear of the consequences or of what others may think if the truth is told. It is only natural that people wish to be liked or accepted by others. This desire, however, can move them to distort the truth, even if only a little, in order to cover up shortcomings, to hide unflattering details, or simply to leave a good impression.

i agree, fear really has something to do with it and it is sad that with such shallow desires of belonging, one has to put on a lie. thank you, this is one realization, i guess. you had given me an idea.
