How old were you when you got your first cell phone? Did you buy it yourself? Or did a parent/spouse buy it for you?

The first time I saw a cell phone in my house was at age 8. It was really amazing and cool to see such a gadget, as I'd always wanted one afterwards. Of course, this little gem was my fathers, and it lasted a good four years. Compared to the phones Nokia makes now, the one back then was pretty heavy and tubular shaped. Nokia seemed less of a good brand as years passed, making me less of a cell phone fan. Well, in October of 2000, I got my first cell phone. The ones my friends had were Nextels, but I decided to downgrade my phone purchase with a Motorolla that sort of looked like a Nextel. The call quality wasn't great, but for those times, it seemed terrific cause of low experience and market age I had with cell phones. At about 16 years, was when I got my first cell phone.
