The True Origins of Thanksgiving Day

Contrary to popular propaganda, the first "thanksgiving feast" wasn't about the "pilgrims" sitting down with the "Indians" to thank them for teaching them how to survive in the "new world". Yes, the "pilgrims" invited the "indians" to the feast to thank them for their part, but the feast was not in celebration of the blessings from the "indians". The purpose of the feast was to give thanks to Almighty God for the blessings He poured on them through that rough time. Of course, you and I are all free to celebrate the day however we choose. That also includes making our own list of who to thank and what to thank them for. However, when talking about the origins of the day, it is important to have the facts straight. "WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houfes of Congress have, by their joint committee, requefted me "to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLICK THANSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to eftablifh a form of government for their safety and happiness:" http://www.earlyamerica.com/earlyamerica/firsts/thanksgiving/thankstext.html

"WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour Is that so? Well... you better remind our Australian Prime Minister of it... because she told us before going to the election that she did not believe in God.

I doubt she cares much about the opinions of George Washington, or the origins of the US holiday of Thanksgiving day. :~D

Nope, I don't have cable, and I know this isn't "new found information", but it can make for interesting and fun discussion (which is why I post things in the first place).

Tell it like it is Brother! I am so tired of the world trying to take God out of everything. He is Alpha and Omega, and He will be here when the politicians, the Atheists and Agnogistics, satanist, infidels and stupid ignorant people are all gone.

i checked out a couple of sites. This is very interesting in a lot of ways. One I love that it does not separate church! lol! It's sad that there was such union between the two peoples only for it to be so bad later... maybe now it's better?
