Kindle vs Nook

I'm looking to purchase either an Amazon Kindle or Barnes and Noble Nook reader. What are the major differences? What exactly is the "3G connectivity" that costs more? Which one has better/more free content? Can a user transfer content from one device to the other free of charge? Are their any rating systems and/or parental controls involved? Thanks in advance for your answers to any of the above questions. Please throw in any other info that might be helpful in my decision to purchase one of these for my 14 year old son.

As far as I know, the free content you can get with the Kindle is really limited, and it is almost impossible to get free new books for it. So I have decided not to get the Kindle because of that.

Thanks for the info. Good to know. Do you know how the Kindle compares to the Nook as far as free content?

This review tends to favour the Nook, though somewhat guardedly. I have not had a chance to see the Nook but I suspect that its colour LCD screen is likely to be less readable than the Kindle's 'electronic paper' screen (which can be read in sunlight). http://www.digitaltrends.com/gadgets/kindle-vs-nook-an-e-reader-face-off/ The '3G connectivity' of the Kindle means that you can download books virtually anywhere at any time without any extra cost. If you are not in the habit of travelling a lot, it would be doubtful whether the extra would be worth it. As far as I know, neither has any parental controls or restrictions on age. Both have a fair number of free books from the public domain. My experience is that some of these free titles on the Kindle have only quite limited formatting and are not as easy to read as a real book version would be.
