Check for other sellers of the same item to make sure that you are listing in the correct category. By checking this way, you can also see how much competition you have. You may be using too high a price or there may be too many of the same item for sale. If is is appropriate, you can also list items in more than one category although this costs extra money. You can use more than one photo if that is appropriate although again it will cost more. You can try selling items with free shipping if you can afford that. There are also free counters in eBay that you can use to see how many times your add is viewed.

I have sold things in the past. Usually books, cds, coins, baseball cards. I do need to start selling again.

Oh, I know how you feel. My listings suffered from it as well . The most important thing about exposure is the keywords in your title. Ebay gives you 55 characters for it, so use it maximumly and wisely.
Avoid phrases like "L@@k!" or WOW! or "gorgeous" because buyers won't type them in the search bar.
Here's a good tool as your title builder:

Good luck with your sales!

Make sure you are using the best titles possible. Look at your competitors if you need to, and make sure your titles are more appealing than theirs. Also, use good photos, and make sure they are shown when people search for certain terms. Also, avoid any typos and expressions that people don't really use in the titles and descriptions.
