I believe you should wait until the kitten is at least 6 months old.
It also needs to have been vaccinated prior to being neutered and have a checkup to make sure that he'll be ok during the surgery.
All surgeries have risks, and the vet should inform you of this. But most animals come through this with no problems.
But definitely wait, your kitten hasn't developed enough to be able to be neutered.

My vet refuses to neuter a kitten until it is 6 months old. I used to go to a vet that said 4 months was the ideal age. The Humane Society from which I adopted my last 2 babies neuter them as young as 6 weeks. So, I'd say it is between you & your vet when it can be done. All I can say is no matter when you decide to do it, JUST DO IT!!! I was just watching Oprah & they showed one town that took in 50 dogs a day & only adopted out 4 a day. The other 46 were euthanized. Spaying & neutering is the ONLY way to STOP the euthanization!!!

My friends 1 year old cat, recently gave birth to 4 gorgeous kittens. They all are in great shape and so is she. However they are planning to get her neutered when she completes 6 weeks post-delivery.Though the vet has assured them that its a simple procedure, they are apprehensive about it.
My another friend told me that, for the male cats its quite a simple procedure. they are alright within a day..
but the females take atleast two days. He have a neutered male cat.

We recently adopted a male kitten who was neutered before we adopted him at 9-10 weeks old. For males, many vets are willing to do it when the kittens are quite young, because it is a relatively simple procedure. If our kitten hadn't already been neutered, I would have waited until he was about 4 months old or so, and made sure he was healthy and all that. I have had several male cats in my lifetime, and we usually have them neutered between 4-5 months. If he is very small, you might want to wait a bit. If you wait too long, you run the risk that your cat may be one of those who develops early, and so start to sprays early!

Speak with your local vet. Most encourage you to wait until your kitten is 6 months old before vaccination and neutering but some will do it as soon as 4 months. The best thing you can do really is to call and check with your vet but if you are going to neuter do it early in his life to avoid 'problems' later. Such as unwanted litters, spraying, and scrapping with other cats. Spraying is by far the worst bad habit a cat can get into and is very hard to train them away from. It can be done but it takes alot of patience and hard work. I know this from experience. I would suggest calling up a local vet and chatting with them about it. If your vet wants to snip him at 4 months, great! If not, then wait it out and get it done at 6.
Hope this helps.
