My wife just ask me to start a discussions about Korean TV series which is now being shown alternately with our own Tagalog Drama series on every station in our country. What do you think guys, do Koreans make better TV series than our own.For me I think we do better than Koreans, imagine many directors and Filipino artists gain recognition abroad in their fields of work which were not given in their own country.Maybe these TV stations are earning more on ads thru the help of imported films or maybe we still have this foreign mentality, if its imported its a good one...isn't it time now for us to patronize our own and be nationalistic...for a better Philippines.

Actually I have never watched Korean TV series before, but one of my colleagues like watching Korean TV series very much. She thinks the Korean TV series length is suitable, and the story is great. She also like some Korean actors. She even set her wallpaper of her desktop with the Korean movie stars. So you can see that the Korean TV series still make a difference to some people here.
I love China

I don't think so. I know people who are in their 20-30s who are avid koreanovela addicts. Housewives also like to watch these kinds of dramas. My friend's mother is a korean series addict. She collects dvds and watches them in her spare time. It's so cool because we were able to talk about our favorite korean series and celebrities despite our age gap.

So i stand corrected about the viewers and because of these korean series, even the young and the young once can relay to each other because they have common passion for tv series.i admit too that some series are good and artistically made and have moral lessons they want to share to their viewer's.thanks...

I can't really say that Korean TV Series are far better than Filipino TV Series. I think it would be unfair if I choose one from the other because right now, I only watch Korean TV Series! ha!ha! I don't know why I'm drawn to their dramas. Probably it's because they have different settings or fashion? or the way they write their scripts which are sooo similar to our values and traditions? or the korean celebrities are soo nice to look at on screen that's why they're so addicting! ha!ha!

I've seen a lot of Korean Dramas but I do it online since I'm not comfortable watching them dubbed in Tagalog and I noticed that there were a lot of mistakes in the translation too.
As to encourage the drama makers in our country I can say that Koreans are so much better at it. They make drama series out of their own history and it is so detailed and so intricate and the pacing is so fast that it got me hooked. The stories are unpredictable unlike our own dramas where you will exactly know who's gonna die next and how it will end. And I think the drama series producers in Korea and the writers are doing the research well that it makes them so consistent, unlike our own where they hardly do the research at all and make the people look dumb especially in court cases scenes and medical scenes. The Korean drama can excite people in from class A to C or even D, but our own dramas insults the intelligence of those belonging to Class A!
Now this is the reality that I've observed and it doesn't mean i'm not patronizing our own. For me to watch our own tv series, the story must be written well with no loopholes and a bit more of reality to it.

Rightly said toniganzon, and maybe you know how to speak korean language or at least understand the language because you noticed some translation are not correct. Then you said their better at it maybe because they are well financed and its they do of course some researching with historical basis. And as you have said if its our own the viewers can guess or predict the next episode or what will be the ending.thanks...

hi stanley! well it is not literally that local stations are bombarding us with korean soap, its just a handful, korean novelas is fine, i do not think watching their soap makes us a lesser filipino, if all of us view it on that perspective, we are turning into a racist country. the brighter side is that we get to know our cultural differences and similarities, and you may not know it, we are promoting friendship and warm relationship with these koreans, in turn they find our country as their second home, now we can see koreans anywhere we go, needless to say all the benefits we get, it is a plus for the Philippines indeed.

I got your point amore2208,what's in my mind is that there must be some restrictions in showing this foreign telenovelas.maybe some of our telenovelas if shown also abroad than that will be fine we can learn about their culture so as them with ours.I don't think this falls in the area of racism, thanks..

maybe this TV stations are just filling the gap in their air time, just in case they don't have available local shows yet. even some shows are re-runs as my wife said because she too is an avid fan.Yes this stations do get more out of their investments in showing some Asia novelas, if not why almost all these station do so.yes i'm with you on this balance programming thing, but don't tell me these station are doing this because its the trend i don't think so, they do make profit from it.but i'm not against in showing this novelas what my point is i hope they do the same with our own local shows too. so that as you have said they too may know our cultures and what we our famous for, hospitable aside from being friendly.thanks again

It is Plus. Since Korean drama be popular these few years on my country. Taiwan drama fans have been move to Korean Drama fans.
And, actually I am not filipino, I am Indonesian. And, to be honest I like Korean actor and actress more than my country because their acting is still better.

I guess it's the trend now, the network in my country and yours are endorsing these Korean drama maybe because they pay little for their franchise and earn more by showing it. I think also that artists in your country and ours were not given their chance to prove their talents because of too many foreign drama series our TV networks are endorsing.

thanks jamed28, but i don't think we can be considered as foreign fanatics.yes many Filipinos I must admit find foreigners more appealing to them if that's the right word but deep inside there is a motive if you know what I mean specially the unfortunate one.So letting these foreign telenovelas in our TV is like invading us in our territories...
