Did anyone see the Real Madrid v Ajax game? Watched the highlights of it just now. Seems like two Madrid players deliberately tried to get themselves sent off by time wasting. Surely the referee should have used his common sense and not done so as they were already on a booking and be suspended for the last 16 first leg, or does anyone think differently?

There is still a game left in the group stages, so they will be out for the sixth matchday, not for the first leg of the last 16. So they can rest and the yellow cards will disappear. It was a deliberate decision, which came from Mourinho. And they are professional players and made what the coach wanted from them. These players are Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso, two regular first team lineup.

Yes that's what I meant. They would now have a clean slate for the knockout stages. What I'm saying is that the ref should have realised this as it was so obvious what they were doing. Why time-waste when your team are already 4-0 up with minutes remaining? Ramos even shook the ref's hand, for goodness sake. I know that it isn't against the law but it still doesn't make it right.

I watched the Arsenal game instead as I am an Arsenal fan, and I'm fuming!
I don't know whether you saw, but Vela was taken down quite nastily in the penalty box and was then booked for diving, it's crazy!
I think referees should start being penalized for making mistakes like that, and for (as you said) not using their common sense like in the R.M game.
It drives me mad that referees seem to get away with whatever they want, without any consequences, especially when they're things that are so blatent.

Yes I did, MildMix. It was a dreadful decision. Wenger apparently was fuming about Braga's strongarm tactics. Arsenal should still get through though, but they must improve in the knockout stages.
