How do your really start a discussion here in myLot?

A few days ago, I saw a post noting that several mylotters keep posting a lot of discussions even if some didn't make any real sense.
So how do we really start discussions here? Should we start with something as lame as : "I lost my wallet today, where do you think it got to?" or would something more philosophical "If a tree falls in the . . . " be responded to with much more enthusiasm.
I do notice that some members post a lot of mundane matters and some do make a lot of sense. To those more sensible postings, I cannot help it, but my hand goes up in salute. But those 20 posted things, by one person alone, about the amount of snot accumulated today, seems just an insult to common sense.

Nin Hao, stacey1209! Your English may be poor, but as long as you make sense, then nothing else matters!

Actually, everyboy's here with a different purpose. Some members just want to earn something - maybe that's why you find posts and discussions that make any sense at all. What I think is that when you post a comment you're just explaining what your position on something is. When you post a discussion you're the one who's giving the members a theme to discuss. The theme could be a story from your day, eating, drinking, smoking and bad habits ot whatever you like. I treat the posts as something meaningful. I agree with you - discussions without any sense are useless. We should post discussions that will force the members to comment.

Well said, and if I may add, we should always consider that mylot is a community. There are people who do read whatever we post here.

I rarely start a discussion, because I know someone must have thought about what I wanna talk about first and posted it here already, so I use the search function to see if that's the case and most of the time it is. Only on the few occasions that I can't find one recent topic that's similar to what I wanna talk about do I start one.

You are quite right in using the search bar to check what discussions have been posted. I do too, if there is something similar but posted a long 4 years ago, I might start a new one. If it's been posted fairly recent, I'd just respond to it knowing that the original poster may still see it.

Couldn't agree with you more. But to most of the people here, mylot has become a part of their life. It's like a daily journal or a diary that they can share everything that they have inside. I think that's why some people start discussions with their own experiences or bad things happening to them today and that would include me.

There is nothing wrong with sharing, bad or good, about our daily life. But I do think it would be inconsiderate of me if I were to keep posting just to earn a few cents. There are a lot of discussions out there that are obviously posted just for the sake of posting.

Thank you for the response, that is exactly my point. Make an effort to post something sensible and not just so you can earn money for the day.

You are quite right with that, but keep in mind that we are in a community and we should be considerate with others.

i usually have hard times responding to posts because i am also looking for stuff that i can relate with. i don't have nothing against other posts since it's the admin that will decide to delete them or not. my purpose here is to express myself and i am posting stuffs that just accidentally pop up in my mind. this is the only avenue where we can share experiences without being ashamed or degraded.

Thank you for responding flagella08. We must also take care not to degrade or insult the intelligence of other members. Yes the admin may be the one to decide, but we all get to read them too.

Post discussions with a lot of sense. There are rules about posting discussions here. If you want you can read it. Posting lame discussions that aren't qualified to be deleted are just pretty irritating but we can't do anything about it but ignore.

Asking for information makes sense, something funny makes sense, posting 10 or more discussions just to reach payout doesn't make sense. Well it does, if one is such a genius with thousands of ideas a day, all your postings make sense! :-)

Believe that enthusiasm will help readers to connect and write replies for your discussions. Anything can be written about, as long as its not illegal or questionable by security. Talking about loosing things, or how one feels about pay day are very good examples of user submitted discussion posts. Write on something that you find interesting as this practice will help you to find and write more efficiently. When it comes to gathering a lot of people into your discussion, do add lots of friends to your network as well.

Hi rovered777, your last sentence does answer the question of how to get more responses. There is no problem with everyday matters as discussion topics. But the point is, there are those who go overboard just to achieve the equivalent amount they have in mind to earn for the day. Methinks mylotting this way is not "writing efficiently". A lot of times, the topic is a repeat or if not just one line, its very easy to know it was just posted for the sake of posting.

Starting a discussion in my lot should be interesting if you want long thread in your discussion. Some posting here have no sense already as long as they can start a discussion without even thinking if they can get followers to comment on it.. That's why i will make sure if i will start a discussion, it would be an interesting one so they will comment on it..

I'm new here and I think that if an idea pops up in your mind or something happens to you(which you think is funny or relevant or has a lesson), you should share it...but I mostly answer or comment in discussions for I don't have a stream of ideas,)

I agree with sharing our lives and experience, what is not good is when we post just for the sake of posting. Please see my comment to rover777's response.
