Where do you get your inspiration?

Personally I find a lot of inspiration in books, music, and the dreams I have at night. I think being an avid reader has really enriched my writing beyond anything else. I also love listening to music while I'm writing, usually the soundtracks of fantasy movies and trailer music because I love fantasy and that's typically what I write. I have loads of amazing creative dreams (possibly as a result of my avid reading? lol ) which I draw a lot of inspiration from. I often dream stories which I later write.
What do you write and where do you get your inspiration for it? How do you think this source of inspiration affects your writing? Please share! I might be looking for more places to be inspired!

Well, I get inspired by many things, from life to music to books..Sometimes it just comes to me, like a G♥d-given thought or something will hit me and I will take it and run with it. I haven't had any for a while, but that is good, since I am still working on polishing my first story..:)

Really? I didn't know that. What kind of novels? I love reading mine, and actually look forward to trying to correct it over the next five weeks before school starts again..

I tend to take things and run with them too! Which is why I'm not very good at polishing things. I've written several novels already but polishing them is a much harder and more pain staking process for me.

I've written two high fantasy novels, one realistic fiction (It's my mutant child. I don't typically read or write realistic fiction), and one Christian Science-Fiction/ Chick Lit. Yeah, I'm actually not sure which genre it fits into more. I like reading back over my novels and I am able to do some editing, but it's much more difficult for me than just diving in and writing a new story. There's a lot of dissecting and I get frustrated at times. Right now I'm working on another fantasy novel for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).

A lot of my writing has an element of teaching to it. That's relatively simple I guess. But for the most part I get my inspiration from life itself. It offers many opportunities!

Life is often inspirational. It's a bit broad of a subject though. lol What do you mean by a lot of your writing has an element of teaching to it? Is it all educational material or is the teaching a bit more subtle than that?

I write on spiritual subjects so it turns out to be mostly instructional. I really enjoy writing study guides. (I'm the question queen!) These are thorough study guides for studying different topics found in the Bible.

Inspirations may come from the people around me,from my loved ones and friends.
From the songs that i've heard of,or from the movies that i've watched.
We are inspired with many things, and it make sense then.
Somehow inspiration give our lives direction and give us strength to moved on.
Have a great weekend ahead

I mostly get inspiration from my own emotion. Sometimes I just get this sudden overflowing of emotions that inspire me to write a poem or a short story in my journal. I'm not sure where that emotion draw it's strength from, but i just feel it like a sudden rush of different feelings.

Interesting! Big rushes of emotion have inspired me in the past before. Usually they're negative emotions and I'm just venting, but sometimes positive emotions have encouraged me to write.

you might think this is crazy but i do get my inspiration in the "sun"! lol! it's not common i know (hehe) but seriously, it reminds me of the lessons learned from the past. it teaches me to live the present & appreciate the new day! it does challenge me to be positively prepared for the future! am not a pagan that's for sure who worships sun as the God. it just makes me realize that in this life, we need a light to survive. a light especially in the dark days of our lives! (:

It's not crazy at all! The sun is pretty important to our lives. If we didn't have the sun... well... we wouldn't have much then would we? Can't say I've ever been directly inspired by the sun, but I do like to sit out in the sunshine and read sometimes.

Art! I should've mentioned that too. It's very inspirational. Of course art is also a broad term. Sometimes people refer to writing and music as art. Ah well, it's truly an inspiration in any case!
Thanks for your response!

I tend to write science fiction with a mystery twist. They are primarily set in today's world, but with a group of people with special powers trying both to help people and keep their secret.
I find I can't write with too many noises distracting me, tho a restaurant is a kind of place I can write in.
Having said that, I've been in a writer's block for over a decade and while I've started a few things, I've finished even fewer.

Do you mean that you're writing here, in Mylot? I don't like you. I love all are quiet when I'm writing if not, I won't concentrate.

No, I don't mean here on mylot. I mean my creative writing that I do. I write stories and novels for fun. Well because I feel like if I won't the stories will haunt me until I do. My favorite genre to write and read is fantasy. I'm not all that fond of non-fiction or realistic fiction.
What? You don't like me? What did I do? Why don't you like me? lol
