I think the best way is to take some basic starting from college or classes, then being exposed gradually to the language, say by surfing spanish web sites, watching spanish spoken films with english subtitles and even chatting or going to a spanish spoken forum.
By the way, I'm from Argentina and we here speak spanish natively. I can help you if you want and need it .
SUERTE!!!

Firstly, what do you need to study Spanish for? Are you are traveling? If so I suggest that you study plain and practical conversational Spanish that is readily available in sites like youtube. This could also be used while surfing the internet in order to understand some sites that are in Spanish. On the other hand correct Spanish grammar used for literary styles is harder to learn, I took that up when I was in college because it was then part of the curriculum, very tedious especially the different tenses when it comes to the verbs. Let me put it this way, if you want to learn English , speaking it is easy, you'll be able to learn a few words and communicate in a few days but knowing which is the noun, the verb ,pronoun, or the subject and the predicate is another thing and quite difficult and would take more time to learn.
