On the whole this has been a good day (but not a cheap one) as I shall explain later.
FloJo was due in at the vets at 3.50pm but John managed to get the whole day off so we could also shop for some fab Christmas wrapping paper, sellotape plus dispenser, tags plus John paid for a 6 month's MOT on his car.
After all that we took FloJo to the vets which, fortunately, is around the corner. Amazingly, it was a breeze getting her in the carrier as it's huge so she has room to move around, plus the fact I've put the furry thingy in the bottom for her to lie on.
FloJo is now registered with the vet which we should've done ages ago, to be honest. Then the lady vet saw her, examined her and asked us if we'd ever seen fleas or flea-muck, eggs, etc in her fur to which we replied "no." She couldn't find any either!
She gave her a thorough examination and had her suspicions (as I did) that FloJo's excessive grooming and biting herself is BEHAVIOURAL. The vet said the cat will stress out over the slightest thing, such as flying at the window when she sees another moggy. I told her that she's rarely left on her own and she doesn't urinate anywhere other than the tray, so far as we know. Certainly haven't spotted anything elsewhere in the house.
So, the vet went on about Feliway, which acts like a standard diffuser, but it's for cats and mimicks a cat's face pheromone, or scent, to make her feel more secure and relaxed. I have plugged it in next to the bed as she spends a lot of time on my pillow.
Total cost of the consultation/treatment? 60 QUID! That includes a Frontline vial which will probably help with her scratching. The Feliway was about £28! I half expected her to say 6 quid or something.
I hope it works! We shall have to go back in a month if it doesn't!

Hmmm, that's quite interesting. One of our cats also excessively grooms herself whenever something isn't right in her world. She had been doing really well - all the hair on her belly and legs had grown back - but then as soon as we started renovating she went right back to chewing her poor belly bald! She's a happy cat, very affectionate and everything, but she is quite neurotic. I'm wondering if something like that would help her; I'm looking forward to hearing how it works for yours!
Also, it might be a good idea to check out Ebay if you need a refill. I was able to order somethings that the vet sold us off Ebay for a fraction of the price.

I will just type out a section for you (from the instructions) that may be of interest to you..
"Felliway provides a sense of security and well being and can help prevent or reduce stress in the following situations:-
Multicat household, expected disruption to the cat's environment (building-work, redecoration, new baby or pet, visitors), familiarisation with a new environment (moving home, kitten socialisation), following the loss of feline companion or owner."
I will definitely let you know if this thing works. It certainly makes a change from the usual fare from vets.

I'm based in the UK but no doubt eBay will have an English version of what you have shown me. Thank you!

Have you heard of Airwicks that you plug into the mains and when the scent heats up, it comes through a hole at the top, dispersing the fragrance? It's similar to that but it hasn't got a scent. It mimicks a cat's scent but it doesn't smell lol. Complicated I know but I think you get what I mean now..I hope.
A quid is a slang word for pound..as in 28 pounds/quid.

I know what you mean. I nearly fainted when the vet told us the price. We have a plug in diffuser in the kitchen that is the human version, by Airwick and it certainly wasn't £28!!

I reckon this vet is into the holistic approach, which is fine by me, if it works. She is reluctant to use steroids and the like and I am pleased about that too as they don't always work.
