IS it True?

Ever since I have not experience using a Linux Operating System but I heard lot of people says that linux operating system can not be infected with a virus. Is it true that a virus can not penetrate linux OS?

It is false, no operating system is completly secure. Nevertheless linux distributions are known to be more secure because you don't need to execute a file to install a program and most virus are driven to windows systems, since they are the most used; beside other things.

That is why I doubted that how can an operating system be free of viruses in which there are lots of virus today and lots of antivirus also. How do this antivirus can make their software for this operating if this linux can not be infected.
