Friends I got this in a mail from a friend in Malaysia.
It says ‘Do you have this plant at home? Beware, because it’s hazardous to health. Basically this article warns about this highly poisonous plant... so please be aware that it's health hazardous when placed at home, in the office or anywhere near our dwelling places. Apart from the poison in the sap of the leaves which can cause irritation, inflammation or swelling of face and jaw when come into contact specially by those with skin allergy. This plant is useless in terms of air purification, absorption of other harmful or even cancer causing gases in the air e.g. CO2, Formaldehyde, Trichloroethylene.
Even the soil where the plant grows also turns poisonous! So, don't use the soil to plant veggies. Even, insects, ants will not go near this plant.
It is such a nice strong yet elegant plant liked by many. Chinese in particular loves this 'good luck' plant due to its common name "Gold Coin Tree" I guess. It's most popular during CNY period... especially dressed them with tiny red ribbons tied to its branches.
So friends, please be safe; just be "distant admirers" of this lovely plant ya!
HERE IN INDIA, IN MY PLACE, WE DON’T HAVE THIS TREE
Any other plant that you consider poisonous?

We have plants in my country that are like that as well, but most people know to stay away from them, poison oak and poison ivy. We even have the saying, "If it's leaves of three, let is be". I have never had an encounter with it yet, and when I go hiking or anywhere, I am pretty vigilante about watching out for the stuff.

Hi! I saw this plant just yesterday in the mall, got attracted by it as an indoor plant and was about to buy it when my daughter pulled me to look at something else. Glad she did. And even more glad to have come across your post. Will read more about it. Thanks.

we have that kind of plant mr. professor! we even planted many of them in fact! it's in our dwelling place for many years! since i was a child, we have that plant already at home.
i disagree with your discussion but i appreciate the concern of course! it's NOT poisonous i believe because i evidently seen insects near it & even within the pot where it is planted especially the ants contrary to what you have said above. we have many of them outside the house, in our garden too! it's even near my dogs choco, creamy & coffee. my mother likes it because it's elegant & beautiful especially when placed inside. i think what makes it elegant is it's real though by its appearance, it really looks like a plastic. it's somehow deceiving in the eyes! hello professor,
i looked at the picture and it looks really beautiful and it seems to be very nice indoors too. but if you say it is a poisonous plant, i dont think i would put that inside the house and near my love ones including my dog. i will be very very careful.
you do not know when accidents happen.

I don't think we have that here but I'm not sure. I haven't seen all the plants that exists here in the Philippines. I'll just take a good look at it so that when I see it I'll know that it's poisonous.![](/Content/images/emotes/thumbup.gif)
