I have an aunt who always wakes up at 3 am on Black Friday to run around from store to store with the crowds to get the best deals. Me I could not careless I do not like to be in a crowded store fighting over the deals when they never have a huge inventory. I would rather stay home and use the internet to shop. What about you, do you enjoy going out on Black Friday?

My Mom was always a Black Friday shopper whether she needed anything or not!!! I always went with her & we made it a girl's day out. Of course, back then the stores opened at5-6:00 am NOT 3-4:00. Since Mom has passed, I no longer feel the urge to do the Black Friday excursion as it brings back too many memories that only increases my loneliness over Thanksgiving. Her other big day was always the day after Christmas when just about everything was put on half price. Now days the sales are as good as they used to be & I've let that day fall by the wayside also. I love shopping; but, much like you, I don't enjoy the crowds plus my funds aren't as good as they used to be. In place of shopping on the day after Thanksgiving & Christmas, I have changed my habits to where I buy all year long when I see things on a good sale. I have one drawer set aside for nothing but the gifts I've bought for birthdays & Christmas. I'm usually pleasantly surprised come Christmas when I inventory my drawer to find I have ALL my Christmas shopping done!!!

LadyMarissa- You are very wise, I do that when I am able, this year has been really hard for money so the closet where I usually try to put gifts through the year is empty, but I am hoping for a better year next year. I prefer to either shop online or during the week on my lunch hour when the stores are not so crazy. I went with my aunt one year and did have fun, but I was much younger then.

I do understand. My drawer is empty this year also. Partly because my money was tighter, partly because the sales were lighter, but mostly because I didn't see anything I thought anybody would like!!! My niece was into the silly bands big time earlier this year & I bought her 3 packs of them. Well, I learned over Thanksgiving that those are no longer in style & she doesn't wear them anymore!!! I buy a lot online because that's a GREAT place for impulse buying!!! That & the fact that I live in a small town & the only decent store near me is jam packed all during Christmas. I have to park near the far end of the parking lot, they don't open enough cash registers so it takes an hour or more to check out. I may just give money this year as everybody seems to love money!!!!

I am from India, so I do not know the term Black Friday, but one thing is sure, I would never get up at 3 A.M. to go shopping, even if they offered me a 90% discount. Moreover I will never stand in a queue in shop to purchase anything. The fact is I even hate to stand in the queue, to pay my bill.

I also think it is dangerous and do not participate. I personally think the sales are just as good on other days and if you are a good shopper you do not have to shop on Black Friday to get the good deals.

I used to work in retail and i seldom had the chance to go shopping on black friday. i do have family members who live for the chance to go shopping on Black friday. they go as a group and make quite the event out of it. I don't need to get up at midnight and run to the mall for a sale. If i feel that need, i will shop online. That can be just as much fun if not more.

I bet working in retail really made you hate Black Friday, I use to also, so maybe deep down that is why I don't like it either. With the internet these days, I think you can find just as much on sale in the comfort of your own home.

This was the first black Friday I did not participate with as I am out of town until December 23rd. This was a special day for my son and I as we did not do the normal as most and run to shop.
What we did was go early to breakfast, there after we would go to Walmart, my son so loved watching the ridiculous people fight and shove. This was the highlight of his day. Anyways being out of town we missed out on this, but so you know we had our Thanksgiving one week before I left. We was truly special as we have always been thankful daily not simply the one day a year.
Also FYI, I am done with all that stuff we talked about before, although it cost me more than I could afford, Lord has blessed me and will take care of the rest. My boyfriend got a great acting job out in TN, so all expenses paid for the both of us so he took me along to take a break from my horrid year. Although not doing much I am extremely drained and depressed that it had to go this far. Thank you my friend for all your lovely prayers, as God finally decided it would end.
I will be looking forward to a brand new year and start my dear.

Just read this early in the morning here right now and I have the biggest smile on my face, thank you for making me smile today. I am so genuinely happy for you, as I have told you many times you deserve everything wonderful in this world and more. I am going to PM you so I can write more.
I think your son has the right attitude about laughing at all of the crazy people shopping on Black Friday.

I usually skip it. I think the "deals" are overrated; it is more like a bait & switch--the stores may have 1 or 2 of the items that are great deals, and they run out very early (like 3:10 am.) To me it's just not worth the hassle (or lack of sleep), especially since stores have sales every other day now. I think it was a better deal years ago, when the sales were actually better than on other days. But I have friends who SWEAR by Black Friday, and insist they buy things on this day that they would never have found as chealpy during any other sale, so I guess it is worth it for them!

I think you hit the nail on the head, I always feel like I am being tricked, when they only have 2 of those items on the good deal. I also feel like nowadays there are so many sales leading up to Christmas especially when the retailers realize they did not do as good as expected on Black Friday.

hi Aurorstorm,
No, I really am not interested in fighting the crowds or standing in the cold for hours waiting for a store to open so I can probably miss out on the one item I might be interested in. They know that all those people that waited for and didnt get what they showed up for will shop around and buy other stuff. It's not for me.

I agree with you and funds being so tight this year I can't afford to get tempted by things that I did not intend to buy. I worked in the morning and then made chocolates for my side business, so I felt way more productive than if I would have gone shopping.

Black Friday is always the day after Thanksgiving. A lot of stores open at crazy morning hours and put some big ticket items like t.v.s and laptops on sale. Then people crowd the stores and then figure out the stock is only a few items, so usually most do not get what they came for.

What is Black Friday? How come it is a bargain shopping day? No, I haven't been to one. Not at 3am in the morning, that's for sure. I will be fast asleep.

I'm not one of "those" people - ha ha. I barely get enough sleep as it is, so there's no way I'm going to get out at 3am just to shop!! With 2 kids, there's no way I'm going to line up at the stores on Black Friday (or walk miles after finding parking far, far away from the store doors). As much as I like a good sale, the time spent shopping on a crowded Black Friday is totally not worth it to me. I will however, continue to shop at the stores instead of internet shopping - I love shopping "physically". We'll just pick a "normal" day and time - like when the doors open in the morning on weekday!!

Your aunt sounds like a few of my family members. They will get up and be ready to leave the house at midnight just for this shopping experience. That isn't quite my idea of shopping.

I know some people make it a whole ritual as a family and if they enjoy it I can't blame them at all I just do not enjoy the crowds.

I went shopping on Black Friday once. My sister in-law wanted to go, so I went with her. I will never go again! First of all I don't like to get up early for anything. They do have good sales, but not good enough for me to get up that early. I don't like the crowds or standing in lines either. I don't like shopping all that much, and the people that do it every year must love to shop.
