Yesterday I went out to play with and feed Lola. I had seen little of her these last days because I got a nasty end-of-Spring cold with a runny nose and all the works. I didn´t know how contagious I was so I didn´t get near her.
Yesterday I felt a lot better, wentr out, saw her and had to tell her that she was the ugliest and worst kept dog ever. SHAME!!! She looked like a lamb, with wool all over (she´s a german shepheard).
So I got the car out and went to buy the most beautiful comb in the world. That was after I found the old one almost entirely chewed(I didn´t do it). I combed and combed. It was not an easy task. Lola wanted to play so she got up and ran.
But you should see her now!!! She looks gorgeous, although I will have to comb her every day the rest of the season. But it will never be like yesterday.
Do you groom your animal friends yourself or do you take them to a pet shop to be beautified?
What kind of cleaning up do you have to do to them? Share

Lucy is a black dog and she loses hairs all the time....but she is not shedding as such. She should be thoroughly brushed before coming inside and I don't bother to do it so she stays out mostly. Banjo the cat is the same...also loses hairs and needs to be brushed but no matter how much I brush, the hair continues to come out. This means I need to sweep more often and because I have rugs on polished floors, I sweep with a straw broom then I vacuum...the amount of hair that comes up is shocking...lots of it is mine too. My little dog Roxy has straight hair at her fron end and curly/wavy hair at her middle and rear end. At the moment, all the curly hair is matted and as of the other day it's full of mud. I have know idea what she's been doing but now I will have to cut her hair.

We have a whippet black lab mix. Her hair is really short. She is more of an indoor breed. Not a lot of winter coat growth. So there isn't a a bunch of clean up. I guess we are lucky.

Lola didn´t look very attractive with her Winter coat. But we had a lovely time combing and playing together. As long as she doesn´t eat THIS comb too...

I believe that you have made Lola to look very beautiful. My two dogs are called Secret and Magic. They are miniature poodles so they are a non-moulting breed of dog. I have a grooming box which I keep the combs, brushes and clippers. Years ago I tried clipping their fur but it never looked all the good. So I took them to a dog groomers at a shop. They hated that and when I saw an advert for mobile groomer I got her to come over to where I live. She clips Secret and Magic in my own home. They get a pet cut rather than anything fancy. If the fur gets long on a poodle it can get matted so I comb my dogs and let the mobile groomer come round every 8 weeks. Now it is very cold in my home country it will be challenging this time but f their fur grows anymore it will be too long. Magic's fur grows faster than Secret's and she is getting a furry face. Her eyes seem to disappear under all that fur. Hug my dear friend.

The chewed up comb sounds familiar! I groom my two cats and my dog every day especially in the warmer months like right now (it’s really hot today) because they lose a lot of fur and if they’re not brushed the hair just hangs on them in clumps. They all love being brushed and I love doing it. It gives me the chance to give them all an early morning cuddle! As far as picking up after them, I do find hair all over the house which means I have to sweep the floors and use the carpet sweeper on the mats every day but they are worth every minute of my time!

Lola is a chewer! And she is always outsmarting me. I take away something from her and she discovers something else. Her last good idea was to chew the sprinklers. I will have to repair them as soon as I have the money. Worse still, she manages to make a wound on her face while doing it. Fortunatly it healed easily.

Hiya margi,
Lola is some Dog. I can imagine what you had to do to comb through her fur as I used to have a German Shepherd too. Everytime I bathed him he would charge out of the Door and go and roll in all the soil he could find at the top of the Garden.
His Fur was medium short so it was not too hard to keep him clean but he did look a right funny Picture sitting in the Bath with all those foamy Bubbles all over the top of his Head.
I have enough trouble keeping my own Hair in place. Besides I can´t have Pets here as I stated two or three times somewhere before.
I can just imagine what Lola looked like after her special Grooming all fluffed up like a lamb it´s a great description that one.

We spoil our dogs. They all live indoors with us. Their fur thickens a little bit, but not as much as your Lola. And because they live indoors, they need constant brushing in the winter to deal with the constant shedding. This makes Spring clean up much easier. Our Shepherd cross blows his undercoat within about a week, but it's not something you really notice unless you're looking. Our Border Collie stays shaved at #3 year round to help cut down on fur balls. So her clean up is nearly nil. Our Mastiff is short-haired, and barely gets an undercoat. Most of our Spring clean up for the dogs is the extra hair they leave around the house... vacuuming more often, laundry more often... But it's worth it. We enjoy having our pack with us in the house. Especially our Shepherd cross. His guarding instincts are supreme, and we needn't worry about a thing with him in the house.

If I had Lola inside the house, I would have to leave. The would destroy it in seconds as she is very active. When I had Misty, I left the door open and she stayed near me just keeping me company. Lola, on the other hand, loves to play and jump. I don´t know if that will change when she gets older. We´ll see. Until now, I´m glad we have very mild Winters. She can be outside the year around.
