I think I'm addicted to rice, I think most Asians do especially those from Southeast Asia. I've been fed rice from childhood to now. I said I'm addicted because I'm totally dependent on rice. When you are addicted to drugs you're dependent on them and so do other addiction.
Can I get out of this addiction? Is this addiction bad?

I see nothing wrong with that, millions of people in Asia eat rice three times a day or more and most Asian countries have rice culture like rice dieties, rice feasts , prayers for bountiful harvest, gods etc..etc...And who ever said its habit forming? Nothing wrong with just eating and liking what you love, besides you can even turn that into something healthier if you shift to brown and unpolished rice rich in vitamin b complex. Good luck.

Because you need additional manpower, machinery and petrol to polish rice

I still don't get why it's cheaper than the one unpolished if it has less manufacturing.

It's no addiction at all because it is necessity. When one consumes a necessity it's not considered an addiction. Rice is your staple food and there's nothing wrong in eating your staple food every day until you die. Yes, you can cut down on it when you're on a diet but nobody is prohibiting you from eating it on a regular basis.

Hi,
Most Asians are taking rice in their daily meals.
For me, yes..I took rice since I was small kid and now, I am still
eating rice everyday. But once a while, I will have
noodle or other kind of foods for my meal.
I am not addicted to rice, for me without rice, I still able
to accept other food in my stomach.
I do see some people need to eat rice for every meals. For them, without
rice, they feel not full at all.

That's how I feel when I don't get rice. For example for lunch I can eat 2 BK whoppers a large fries and a large drink and a refill this is the American BK BTW. After the consumption of such big meal I still want rice for some reason.

You need take rice the whole day long. A good diet will be more meat in your breakfast, some rice in your lunch and pasta or whole grain bread for dinner. That way, you will not have an overdoes of sugar. Unused sugar turns into fat and that is bad.

Shouldn't it be carbohydrates for breakfast and lunch because that's usually when you need energy for work? and more protein at night because that is when your body does more absorption and recovery?

I can't really say I am addicted to rice, I've been eating rice my while life too, it's just become a habit not an addiction. But i you say it's a n addiction, you don't really need to break out from it- it's healthy food anyway..just don't eat too much .

Nope, it's rice not carbs. Bread is there, potato is there too but rice even in a small amount is better for my brain's pleasure centers.

Rice is a food item and I don't thing any food item can be an addition forming thing. You can say you have got weakness for this food item. But you know in India all of us eat rice on regular basis. many states in India have Rice as their staple food. All the coastal states and the southern states of India are basically rice eaters and they use rice to prepare breakfast and many other snacks too. Thus Rice is a staple food for these people. So if we look at these people are these people addicted with rice? No they are eating this for their survival. Basically rice is a cereal food which is starchy in nature indicating that it is rich in Carbohydrates. And Carbohydrates form an important ingredient of food material along with other sources like proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals on which a living being survives. Carbohydrate is good source of energy which gives calories after its metabolism which is required to take care of daily activities. So consumption of this material in any form is a must. So I think rice eating where it is available in abundance may not be termed as an addiction, but I think we should call it as a necessity! Thanks for initiating such a nice topic of discussion I liked participating in it!

Rice is our staple food and cant be called as addiction. Every individual has their own staple food and so rice. Its not addiction because it does not harm our health. Its a staple food which liked by most of Asians. Other foreigners like pizza, bread and others and probably eat it as their food every day.

Food habits mainly depend on what is main product of the land. In this part of the world rice is cultivated most, so we eat rice mostly. So i guess we are not addicted.

Rice is the staple diet of most of the countries of Asia. I don't think there's something bad about it, though, you must keep it at levels that are good for you. I am a rice-eater and I don't see anything wrong with it, it's better than bread since it's not processed in anyway (the only process is goes through from the farm is cleaning and peeling).
I don't think it could be considered an addiction because 'addiction' means that you can no longer think about anything other than rice. I don't think you're up to that 'addiction' hehehe.

Hi Gorillafootprints!
I'm very much an asian and I am very much dependent on rice too. Rice is our staple food. I don't think I want to call it an addiction. I just want to variate the kinds of food I eat so that I wouldn't be totally dependent on rice. And I try to consume rice in as many ways it can be served, fried, boiled, steamed, made into noodles, cakes and the like.

I don't think such addiction is bad. Why not? My country here are full of people who 'addict' to rice. We will say, 'aha, you haven't eat today, so let's eat' by the time you eat some fast food. That's funny you know. But, that's Asian, nothing changes at all. Rice is the prime food, and we can't leave that.

yes we, asians are kind of addicted but in a good way, lets just say we got used to it already. rice is great source of carbohydrates, our bodies easily obtain energy from glucose produced by the carb we ate. also carb can increase our calcium absorption from foods, thus in turn give us strong and healthy bones.

Keep eating it all the time and one day you will not even be able to think about it :P
I eat rise all my life but once in a month or so and i dont find it addictive .
The Asians eat a lot of rise cuz they live in is a place where products producing are 90% rise or so .
But i think there is nothing wrong with liking the food just don't forget to eat something else from time to time , because there is no food that can bring you all various types of vitamins ;)
