What is meant by Core Banking?

I have been surfing through Indian Banks for Foreign Exchange Services. This term - "Core Banking " has been encountering very often. Can anyone explain me what is it? & what is its use & significance in Indian Banks(Preferably SBI) Thank You

Hmm, this term is fresh new to me too. I just don't know the meaning of it. I hope that someone can explain it to me too. Thanks for posting up here. I hope that someone will come around and post it here. I am willing to learn something here.
