I am posting a picture of a baby moose that a friend of ours found along the side of the road after his mother was hit by a car. They talked to the DNR(Dept of Natural Resources) and was told to feed it and hopefully it will just leave on it's own.
It was so cute...it played with the kids....it would even follow them....like a dog would.
In a couple of weeks, sure enough, the baby moose left our lives and went to live in the woods.
Here is a picture of my son and the moose.

I hope it made out okay. It is a cute little fellow. My ex went to live with his brother up in ALaska when he was younger. The moose would come down on his patio and beg for food. I had never heard until then about them coming down so close. When I was about eight or so my church group went to Yellowstone. There was a moose out in a field. We were told to stay back and just look. It was huge. I was so in awe.

I has been known to have moose, dear, bear come onto people's lawn here in rural New Brunswick.
If it happened to be in the fall, moose can be very aggressive towards humans. I can see why you were advised to stay away, no matter what the season.
Thanks.

Awww...I saw the picture. It was so adorable! And it was right of you to call the DNR. I heard of a lot of people who find baby animals and feed it and keep it at home, and it becomes dependent on the family, so it can't go back out into the wild, as their instincts and wilderness skills have deteriorated, and if they do, they die.
We once found a squirrel once, trapped in a crate on our deck. We played with it for a day, feeding it nuts and berries, and eventually, sadly, we had to let it go back into the wild later that day.

This baby wasn't kept in a pen or anything....they woke up every morning wondering if he was till around. One morning he wasn't.

What a wonderful story! A great experience for your son, and such a kindness on your part. Maybe he will come back for a visit.

I don't like to see moose too close up. I had an accident with a moose a few years ago and wrote off my car....so I still like to see them at a distance.

It is great that they checked with the authorities first. It sounds as if this happens from time to time and they know what to expect.

What a touching story. I am glad that you were able to feed it and make sure that it was safe until it was able to go off on its own. We don't ever see any moose down by me, however, I have seen them when I visited up in Canada. I never knew they would be so domesticated, but I guess being that he was a baby that is why he was so playful with the kids. I am glad to see that you had a happy ending to the story and the little moose was able to go back to the woods and hopefully will find a family to adopt him.

Oh, it is so cute and seems to be very tame as well. The fact that the moose was in such close contact with people could be both a good thing and a bad thing for the poor animal. The fact that it is not scared of people could mean that it could be shot during hunting season because it isn't afraid to approach people. However, it is a good thing as well because there is always the chance that it could come back at some point and visit his surrogate family.

Normally I wouldn't care about seeing any wildlife, but when I saw your title I got curious. I'm a fan of the Canucks, and since the Manitoba Moose is their farm team, I just wanted to relate how a baby moose turns into a bic canuck?!
Haha! I know my response probably doesn't make sense, but it's a Monday. And I'm allowed to be a little off.

Hi Nadenest!
I find this very touching too. That's a wonderful thing to do. I'm sure your son is learning something good from this experience and would grow up to be responsible with a positive outlook.
When one day, many years later, you wake up to find a big moose in your backyard you know that he's back to say a big thank you.

That's a really touching story. I always love hearing about stories where mankind connects with nature, because that is pure beauty. I highly respect your decision to take care of it, it's because of people like you I still have hope for this non-conservationalistic society. Keep it up!

Ow, it's so cute. I want to hug and hug and hug it all day long . I hope it leaves and goes to the wild where it belongs , but in the main time you can enjoy it's presence , can't you ? It's great for the kids to spend time with wild life animals, because they find them very interesting and later on learn how important is keeping the environment clean . Just feed it and everything will be okay.

What a neat story. We had a pet deer one time that its' mom had been killed and it wandered into the garage. I think that animals like that depend on us to take care of them until they can stand on their own.

That is so sweet what you did. Very admirable my friend.
As for moose, is it true that they are one of the few animals with completely furry noses?

What a wonderful story to read indeed, as the rewards of helping a helpless baby moose must be rewarding indeed.
It gives the kids a chance to realize that love and care for animals is joyous.
