if we could just stick all holidays together? especially the BIG ones that cause most of us so much stress? that way it could all be over in 2 days and we'd be free to enjoy life the rest of the year without so much stress Heres my idea. the 24th of December, kids go out trick or treating,(Halloween)come back to have a ham dinner or whatever you have on xmas, open presents, go to bed. next morn bright and early go to church, hunt eggs, get easter baskets, then eat turkey and pumpkin pie or whatever and give thanks, all on 25th, (Easter,Christmas) then in evening, drink green beer, party, celebrate the coming new year in a few days(Saint pats, New years celebration days early)oh yes, almost forgot, at different times during the day, we could set off fire works, and give each other candy and Valentines. (4th july and Valentines day) Hows that? If I was queen of the world. that would be my law.
ps. know I was going to take a break. but couldnt resist putting up my brain child idea here. all things concidered...lol.

Nooooooooo! you are not supposed to stress over holidays. You are supposed to take a holiday to let you get out of whatever it is you usually do. I know that sometimes it seems overwhelming, but just look at them as mini vacations and refuse to participate in whatever part stresses you.

Do not give to anyone at all. They do not seem to appreciate it. Give to charity if you have money, spend your time helping others if you have the energy. This kind of nonsense is not what a holiday is about. I can see why you are stressed. I just stress over my nasty house.

it all stresses me. i mostly have kids(grown) that understand and are helpful. but ones a bit spoiled i guess. last year, because i have 8 grandkids to buy for and she has 2 of those, btw, and i didnt have much money, i sent money and just bought for the grandkids. well, after xmas she called and said, you sent money for the kids but i was left out same way with dad. Even though. i got nothing from her that year. things like that stresses me. like worrying ones going to feel wronged. you know?

To respond to all of you, I agree to some degree with all of you but on the other hand with the world's economy being what is I believe there is alot more pressure being placed on people, for example like me. and others like on very tight fixed incomes during normal times; holidays not withstanding. Add those into the equation and the result is "STRESS".

It would be a good idea with a maximum of 10 festivals in a year. But the idea wouldn't go off well in a country like India.....we've got hundreds of festivals spread through out the year...and each one celebrated differently (the same festival might last a day for one community and a whole week for another community!). It would be crazy trying to figure out a day or two for all the festivals :)

Not necessary. Different festivals are celebrated in different states. There are a few that are celebrated all over India but in different ways. The state I come from there are just two main festivals...one is common to all religions...and Hindus,Muslims and Christians have one that is specific to their religion. The idea proposed in the initial post might work with this state...but not with many others...where there are lots of Hindu festivals being celebrated for various reasons depending on the belief of the community. It's mostly in the cosmopolitan cities that we get to know about all these festivals.

I think if we did that alot of people would be having alot of heart attacks trying to get all that in on those 2 days...Now if it was spread over a week..that be best..We have an awesome Apple Festival Every October so would love to include all that also. But just imagine how board we would be throughout the year with nothing but those couple days to look forward to? Would we still get the days off and breaks like we would have otherwise?

Well..lumping it all together is better then doing away with it altogether like I sometimes wish it was..believe me I have my days of wanting that. Especially when I am tired of cooking all that food..so tired I don't even get to enjoy the day usually..and when money is tight...I enjoy it even less because I feel like we are the only ones not able to get the kids stuff..We don't have children, no but we have alot of nephews and nieces, we usually try to get for but the way things are..money is to tight this year again.

Alice, now you are just funning me. but that was actually kind of the idea as i didnt think anyone would go for my depressed opinion anyway, since others arent as sick of it all. yes, mtdewgurl, i think we should have the days off compiled into one longgggggg, vacation. that way, maybe we'd actually have time to enjoy them instead of just one off here and there. not even time to do much with itplus get our usual pay for that day off.then we'd have enough in one bundle to enjoy them. lol.

Instead of giving all those days off it would be nice if workers just got an annual holiday bonus from our various emoloyers to be able to afford the holidays to begin with especially After we would have worked hard all year; so a financial present would probably mean more to most working families anyway. We could then have the actual day of the holiday off and maybe one or two more days off to recuperate. To me much more practical I think. How about you?

When i moved away from my home state alone with my son who was then 2yrs. i was really depressed because i didnt afford to buy him chrismas presents. I met up with some Jahovah witnesses and learned the truth about the holidays from the Holy Scriptures point of view. It was really a eye opening experience. I learned the truth to all the holidays. It sure releaved a lot of stress for me.

Hiya bunnybon,
Well in one way it´s a really good Idea. But if you were to try that out here the Protest would be enormous. You just would not be able to take away the Holidays from the Spanish. It´s their Life. They would protest like mad. There are more Holidays here than you can fit on the Calendar anyway.
Does not bear thinking about lol.
Me for one I am already fed up of their never ending Holidays another one coming up Friday and the other on Monday and then all finished more or less till Christmas itself and then the New Year and then wait for it Christmas does not officially finish till the Sixth of January of every Year. No leap Years included here (grin().
Plus then each Village has it´s own Festivities and of course the Holiday to go with it.
No bunnybon would not work here might work over there but without a doubt here no. Sorry it really is a good idea too.
Take care now.xxx

Hiya bigal3,
It would go down very nicely for most I would think. They have an extra pay packet in December too so. Well when I say that they usually do perhaps it is not the done thing now right at this moment in time.
Perhaps those extra pay packets will never come back again. Some have had them forfeited already and the rest will not be far behind either.
If they have a whole months Holiday and money to spend that must been business for someone else and that makes for a good thing I would say.
Paid Holidays and money to spend nothing to sniff at eh?

Well in that case for cultures that have many holidays one right after the other there could be, get this, a one month long holiday with pay of course that would cover all of the holidays. I wonder how well that would go over with the commericial community?

"gabs..." I hate to be the negative one about this comment but we are the parents and it all goes to how much importance we place on holidays and such when they are young and impressionable. Then too they get indoctrinated by TV and other forms of brainwashing by way of the media. It is up to the parent to put holidays into prospective for young ones. After all "MADISON AV." counts on this tatic to sell product regardless of the holiday or the meaning behind it.

That would be wounderful if all the holidays could be stuck together. I like it that way. I am glad that I can have winter and summer holidays for a long time and enjoy myself from the stress out of work. Holidays are too important for us all as it helps us forget about the work stress and get relaxed. Enjoy yourself, bunnybon.

That's a funny idea, it made me smile!
Now I'll get serious--the holidays are stressful because of our expectations and our attitudes. Christmas is especially stressful because we think we have to spend a lot of money on gifts and we've forgotten the true meaning of the holiday.
I was at my cousin's house last Christmas Eve and it was so refreshing. We all had sloppy joes and potato chips (that's their traditional Christmas meal) and other simple goodies and then everyone unwrapped their presents. They gave inexpensive things like scented candles, scarves, hand tools and the like. I don't think any gift was over $5. But they were thoughtful! For instance, my cousin's husband had lost his favorite hammer, a red one that he could easily find so his daughter scoured the stores and finally found a duplicate. Thoughtful, appreciated, cheap but treasured. A gift from the heart, not the wallet.
Okay, I've lectured and ranted and I feel a little better. We need to change our attitudes before we can change our lives.

Hi Bunny! Sounds like a fun 2 days! But then...what do we do for the rest of the year? It would be interesting to see how quickly the media and greeting card companies come up with new holidays, wouldn't it?
Might be hazardous to our health (or mine anyway) to have the Halloween, Christmas and Easter candy sales all at once. No matter how much I bought, I don't think it would last a year.

So is this all the holidays mean to most people? Eating, drinking and partying? What does the reason for the holiday, any holidy mean? It sounds to me they are only excuses to get off from a job you probably do not like and an excuse to eat and drink more than usual.

I kind of like the space in between them. Gives you a lot of time to prepare, you know? And kind of balances the stress out over the course of.. the entire year pretty much. I find Thanksgiving to be kind of a useless holiday (no offense) so if they just got rid of it, that would be fine by me!

I never ever thought of this but I do love your idea and to bad it couldn't happen. To be stress free all year from dealing with dinners and gifts for Valentines, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas would be a great thing. To deal with all this over a two day span would be wonderful and I think alot more people would be happier in their lives.

I concur with both of you. In today's economic climate there is even more pressure put on families, friends and businesses. I live on a fixed income in a foreign country so I get even more financial pressure because I have to send everything via the post and that's not without high postal rates to the U.S.
I too will be glad when the holidays are over.

I can't say that I am really in favor of linking them all together the way that you've stated, but I really do think that we need to link together Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years because all three of the holidays are just too close together in my opinion. We can do the Thanksgiving dinner on the 24th of December then watch the ball drop in Times Square as the parents are assembling the toys from Santa Claus. Finally, there would be football on Christmas/New Years day. It would mean one less day of being stuck watching football all day.

I have to agree with both of you to a point. When I was married and had a family I managed my time during the holidays between helping my wife cook, watching sports and wraping presents. We had kind of a team effort going. Even the kids got into the act. I did most of the heavy cooking like preparing the turkey and baking "sweet potato" pies and such. My family liked my cooking especially my wife. Those were the GOOD TIMES.

It could be set up for maybe three days of celebration once a year and call it "World celebration day" or something like that. That way there would be enough time to include them all. At least in the U.S. maybe.
However, "Hatley" is right about the merchants. They would have a fit. You know, the quest for the almighty $ and all that. Oh well it was a thought.

LOL.. no, not for me. I like them being so spread out. Gives us more to look forward to, and it's easier to afford that way. It's hard enough trying to recover from the twins birthday on Nov 19 with Thanksgiving in that same week.. then a month later worry about Christmas, and just a couple weeks after Christmas is the youngest son's birthday. May is worse as our wedding anniversary, Mother's Day, my birthday and my oldest son's birthday are all within a week of each other. It's crazy, hectic, and expensive! Just wait till I have grandkids and that many more birthdays throwin into the mix. Nope.. I'm happy that holidays are not all clumped together.

I have to agree with you "bunnybon". When I was a youngster up until I went to Viet Nam I was really into the holidays. The older I got the less they they meant to me after that experience. My wife and I really celebrated them for the children's sake. When we split up (that's another story), I really didn't want to celebrate but my friends were always inviting me to parties and get togathers so I'm kind of glad now I do not have to deal with them.
Now that I'm alone and living in Thailand which does celebrate Christmas and new years I really don't get into it anymore. The only reason the Thais do it is because we "farangs" (foreigners) have indoctrinated them to it. They even have learned to celebrate "Valentine Day". More pressure if you have a girlfriend which luckily I do not for the moment. Yep, I have mixed feelings about the holidays. What about you?

Both ideas appeal to me and make alot of sense. To me it seems the world is going down hill fast anyway. I find it difficult to celebrate in our current state of affairs worldwide! The only winners are the already greedy business sector of any country. The average citizen and the poor of just about any country are the ones that suffer the most. What is that to celebrate about?
