Kitchen disasters

Hi myLotters! The other day my boyfriend and I tried to bake some saffron buns (or, as they usually call them in Sweden, "lussekatt"), which is a typical Swedish thing to eat the weeks before Christmas. We went to the store, bought all the ingredients, and we got started. But, unfortunately, things didn't quite go as planned: something went wrong with the yeast and it turned out that the dough didn't expand (my boyfriend says it's maybe because it got too warm when mixing the dough, since we used an electric mixer and the poor machine had some trouble, since the dough was really thick), and even though this was a downer we decided to try and put the buns in the oven anyway to see what happened... and well, it was pretty much a disaster, since the consistency of the dough was way too thick and hard to chew, and the taste wasn't that nice either... I ate a couple of them anyway because I hate to waste food (and the money that went into the ingredients, since saffron is a very expensive spice), but things definitely turned out to be a disaster! At least we didn't burn the kitchen, though ;) So, what about you people? Do you have any kitchen-nightmare stories to tell? Also, have you ever tried saffron buns? :)

I've had a few burn-disasters too, but fortunately nothing too serious. It's nice that you're helping your daughters learn how to cook :) Take care and thanks for your reply!
