Okay the Department of Social Welfare has decided to ban children from caroling on the streets.
Pros- It has been deemed that caroling on the streets will expose children to unnecessary danger.
Cons- It has been a long time tradition and we will deprive them of a way to earn a little this Christmas.
Which side are you on? Let us know your opinion.

I agree on banning caroling on main streets and business areas. It's very dangerous for kids especially those who go from one jeepney to another just to carol. But I hope they still allow caroling in residential areas. It wouldn't be same without children caroling. My daughter is even planning to join the caroling on our subdivision. Christmas for the kids won't be the same either if they weren't allowed to carol.

this must not be in the US as people of all ages can carroll withnout any government action as far as I know.I think that children can carol bvut that an adult should accompany them for safety sakes. I think
this is in the P hilippines?

Yes Maam, this is in a Philippine setting where the major thoroughfares are always dangerous for children not just during Christmas but the whole year round I'm literally talking about hundreds if not thousands of street urchins that roam around the streets day in and day out begging for money and food from the poorest of the poor communities.I have relatives in your place in California and know how much orderly it is there, I'm also fortunate enough to live in a private subdivision. I don't think adult supervision is applicable since the adults can't even take care of themselves, I'm talking about families of six or more that lives on a dollar or less a day. Don't think they are qualified to accompany them cause they never gave a thought themselves when they made those children, in fact, some of them are the very same ones who prod their children to beg so they can make a little bit more

Wow that is pretty ridiculous if you ask me! It is a tradition that is fun for kids to do. I remember doing it when I was in girl scouts. Personally I wouldnt want kids coming to my door singing me songs but if the kids want to walk through the streets filling the streets with their voices then I think thats nice. As long as their are adults with the kids then it shouldnt be banned.

I agree with DSWD. Children should not be in the streets at night gambling their safety and security for a few pesos. It is not their job to bring in money for the family - let their parents get off their butt and earn. Traditions are only good if it furthers an important value. Caroling in the street only teaches them how to beg, not a good lesson to learn at an early age.

Pros! They don't earn much to risk their own lives. Life is more important than money. And we can just find ways to give them presents without any risk to their lives at all. We can still continue the tradition. It will never be lost, just find ways to do it safely. Not on the street.

How can they ban those children from caroling on the streets when they cannot even monitor those children loitering in the streets? Even those children jumping from one jeepney to another? While I was walking a while ago to buy for dinner since I am quite tired or not in the mood to cook, I saw children caroling at this early stage. Well, I do not wonder because those kids or street kids take this chance to ask for money without begging.

I agree because it's a danger to the children and caroling should not be associated with earning money. This is also abuse on the children that is child labor blah blah. And children are caroling not on the stores but knocking on cars and other vehicles and singing just a few lines and wrong ones at that.
I was also caroling back then but it was on neighbors' houses and we sang the carols correctly and sometimes we were not given money but candies and we were happy with that.
And I think it's not tradition caroling on the streets but an offshoot of being creative in earning money during the season.

Yes it was long time tradition but that tradition bring danger to our children what is the important small amount of money or life in danger. So it is very simple life is so important ban should be implemented in order to stop such danger... see you around

it's ok if DSWD banned childrens for carolling on the streets for their security.
but i strongly agree with the cons, i experienced carolling on the street when i was a kid and i want my neices, and nephews to experienced what we had experienced with my siblings and friends.
as long as childrens is accompany by teenagers or adult it's ok.
