Hy
Well if you think you will "survive" as a writer and that you are "alone" in this it is very hard to say if you will be experiencing the life that you want, but you need to understand that you are not alone, someone that is infinitely powerful is always with you(every second of your life) and you receive all that you have from this power(even if you don't believe it at this moment) you only need to have trust in you, see your self in your mind like a very good writer make a plan to become a very good writer and give all you got every day to realize that dream.
An by the way start immediately to work toward this dream of yours and never never .... never give up...
Winners never quit and quitters never Win.

Truth be told. I knew a man who was a professional writer from Canada, and he said that the money that he made from it was not enough to keep him going. He had a college degree and everything and he just didn't make enough on writing. If you are going to write, you are going to need other jobs as well because writing isn't always going to pay the bills, unless you are famous like J.K. Rowling or Stephanie Meyer, it won't pay the bills.

First of all, let me congratulate you on this brave decision. It is really a tough decision to leave the world of corporate and be a freelancer. But do you think you have the ability to write quality articles? I don't think you are wrong when saying that if it would be possible to survive on just writing. You might have thought of this option before too, didn't you?
Whenever you feel the need or just for the sake of it, you can get in touch with me, because I am trying to build a team for some writers with a long term job. I haven't yet decided how things will work out, but I am surely shaping it up.
Add me in your friend's list.

It is very hard to say. Some people succeed, others do not. It all depends on how motivated you are and how hard you are willing to work.
I do think it can be done, but it is certainly not for everyone, and it may take some time to get there. But do not give up! If you really want it, and are patient, I am sure you can do it!
Good luck!
