Paypal is good both for security and environment friendly

I was thinking why paypal is not used for, was it for security reasons that money can be used safely oor securly for people or was it for saving paper and its contributions to environemnt? if it is for security why only few countries are serviced and some or if not many are left out. it is also for saving envornment as part of mobern trend of going paperless where technology allows people use less paper and more technology. Any ideas on this thought.

I think it was originally developed so that people could do secure transactions online, because internet payments did not use to be very secure in the past.
(And data bases still get hacked from time to time, so I think this is even true today to some extent)
But the other things you mentioned are bonuses too, of course!
But the main reason, as I understand it, was to make people feel better about buying stuff online.
