Being professional an edge here in mylot? Why?

I am not a professional . I want to be optimistic and so obviously I don't want to even take the thought that Professionals may have an edge . Each person has a unique set of interests . A person who is very much interested in a particular field , say philately , on his interest he may study that subject very deeply in his free time like a hobby , and collect many more micro information than , a person who is a philatelist by profession . The professional person does it to earn a living and not on interest . If the person does a work both for his livelihood as well as on interest , it is well and good . But in most cases , the above criteria is not true . Hence though a person is not professional , he may have more knowledge on a subject than a person who has it as a profession . Hence these additional knowledge can very much more in these discussions in not only Mylot , but anywhere .

I am a professional specialised in equine breeding.I am a Vet who is serving for a Stud Farm where we breed horses meant for racing. I am on this site almost right from its inception. In my opinion this site is such that here every member is treated equally by the admin. You are not spared because you are a professional or you are given special importance for you are a professional. Here every thing is depending upon the quality of the discussion or posting what we are making.If our postings are good and carry some quality we are appreciated by other members and also by admin. Mylot is basically an unbiased site and it treats every one equally. Yes,being a professional you may have a command on a particular topic and by virtue of which you can post a better posting than others. If your posting is good then believe in me you get definite appreciations from various members and admin. and you will be noticed soon on this site for your good postings. If your postings are good then you will get a lot of friend's requests for friendship. Apart from this I don't think you have any edge over others as a professional at least on this site! Hello Visavis, GOOD QUESTION! but it depends entirely on the interest of the Lotter. It doesn't matter if they are professional or not. For example, back in my old deleted account i had successfully had my brother referred to this site. and all he had to post was about techno stuff, too bad i have completely forgot his username. but unfortunately, he didn't last long. but i hope to convinced him to join again when he get to buy his new computer. Personally, it depends on the interest. am unemployed but i can also post topics here too. of course, if i have job, you won't see me here often

I think not at all. As long as someone have lots of interesting discussions it doesn't matter what the topic is. Actually, I don't think I would like to response on topics from doctors or lawyers a lot of time. What do I know about those things?

It doesn't matter whether you are a professional or not as long as you can participate here and you know how to express your ideas well and communicate in the English language. If one doesn't have a good command in English, then it's difficult to express and be understood and you won't get responses! So it doesn't matter what your profession is here!

YES, being a professional is an edge to earn good in mylot. Because most of the discussion you will possible create will have a great impact and possible receive good response as well.

In my opinion the only people who actually have the so-called edge on mylot are writers. It's because writing comes effortlessly to most of them, and since mylot awards its users based on performance and activity, people who can write a lot and be creative in discussions will obviously get more "best response" awards and be able to respond to more discussions, and have more ideas for fun and intriguing discussions. Of course I might be wrong, this is only me personal opinion. I don't know any professionals who participate in mylot discussions, and I, myself, being a professional don't actually start discussions in my area of expertise, because I have enough of it at work.

hello friend, All i know is that when i join mylot and signed up i never see any field asking for my profession or my work is (just kidding) But,of course i knew there are lot of professionals who are members of mylot,and enjoy their time here too. I am not a professional myself,i do work at home and work in an office but mylot is one of outlet,great outlet for expressing myself,emotions and everything. Mylot is my bestfriend,shock absorber,always ready to hear me out and embrace me when i needed someone to listen to me,when i needed someone to cry with,mylot is always here and never let me down. Mylot is more than professional in many ways Have a great day always.

Hi visavis! I would appreciate a lot the comments by professionals like doctors, engineers and the like as much as by all myLotters. But the spectrum of discussions and interests here is just too diverse. As diverse as the myLotters here there are as much similarities as there are differences in opinions. And in 'life' I've realized that quality in opinion does come from the man in the street, practical and tested.

I do not think it is necessary to give expert's opinion on topics discussed in myLot. There are so many other websites specializing in giving professional advice or knowledge. The charm of myLot is in the funny questions, like what about eating ice-cream in the rain. It is refreshing to discuss whether you fold dog-ears in your books, or some other funny habit of yours. Is not it nice to put aside all the big knowledge in our heads and just relax and laugh at the funny side of life with our cheerful fellow myLotters?
