Two years ago, my brother's friend who happens to be a successful Chinese businessman advised my brother to send his son to a Chinese school so that he can learn the language. According to him, Chinese will be the next universal language. What do you think?

I think that this has a great probability. China is a great country with a great population and if they will spread throughout the world and if they will form strong communities in the countries where they emigrate to, then it is very possible for Chinese to become a universal language. As for me, I wouldn't want to learn this language, because it is a very difficult language, and I already know 4 languages, which must suffice.

There is no doubt China will be the next big thing and will be an important country in the world economy. But I doubt Chinese language will be the next universal language.

It is possible. For me I have always wanted to learn Chinese and I hope someday I still can. I feel knowing any other lanuage makes you more employable to be honest. In the area I live in now knowing how to speak spanish opens doors for a lot of jobs to interpet. I have often thought of learning spanish so I could get a nice job like that as well. So I would say my answer is yes and no. Nice post as well.

Is he serious? I mean, some actually refer to gibberish as chinese. How can chinese be the next universal language? That's absurd what he said.

well i guess thats true bcs i also heard that before^^ anyway i guess it will really happen bcs there are so many chinese in the world that i guess that would be good if we also could study their language instead of being english always. but i dont know i mean i guess is a bit hard to learn this languague if you dont start to learn since you are young^^ i mean for me i guess would be a bit hard to learn that now ^^ even im only 20 but is ok for me if it becomes an universal language^^ also is always good to learn new languages.

It may not be the next universal language but it will be a business wise to learn. If I have a child on my own I will do the same. Education is an investment and learning Chinese is a great plus. Someone said " the limit of your language is the limit of your world".
