Does An Ice Hotel Appeal To You?

Me neither!
Pretentious sh*te if you ask me.

Now, I KNOW that sleeping in a hotel made of ice would be some people's idea of heaven but I just don't get it..I don't even like camping so to do that indoors is strange to say the least.
I bet some people go there with inadequate clothing as well. That wouldn't be much fun would it? No doubt the clothing would cost more than the bloody holiday.
Hahaha!

an ice hotel looks very pretty, all sparkling and clear, but no, its something i would rather look at than stay in. my idea of a hotel is comfortable warm beds , big squashy sofas, and able to dress up to the ninesb in all our glamourous splendour . not galumphing around in big fur coats and big boots !! and the thought of getting up in the morning to a cold icy room does not appeal.

I'm with you on this my friend. Fancy doing some shopping? Where do want to go? I fancy New York myself. I'd love to go there, especially this time of year...London will do though, some nice hotels there.

I would love New york, one of the girls in the office went for 4 days and said there just wasnt enough time to see everything. I would also love to go to the christmas market in Bruges. I have heard so much about it and seen the pictures. London would be lovely , I used to work there and there are lovely hotels and shops. lets get our shopping bags and hit the shops !!

No, I would not do that. I have seen these ice hotels on travel programs a few times over the years. They build them at the start of winter and then they melt at the end. What a stupid idea!
I guess they are cleaner for the environment than having a hotel built out of regular building materials though. I wonder what they do for toilets?
I like camping, but I only like it when it is warm weather and dry. Luckily that is six months of the year here. I camped last weekend at an archery competition and will be doing the same this weekend with my son if it is not going to be raining. Camping in the rain does suck a bit!

Staying in this hotel has no appeal whatsoever to me. I'd much prefer to stay in a very warm log or similar hotel with lots of fireplaces. And then I'd bundle up and go see the sites... And then maybe not... Maybe I'd just sit by the fire and watch the sites on TV.

I'm the same as you. To stay somewhere cold just doesn't appeal to me at all. Fair enough, if it was cold outside but the hotel itself had a big, roaring fire in it, that's great but nothing like that could appear in an ice hotel..for obvious reasons!

When I was in London a few years ago I stopped off at this amazing bar which was made from ice! Everything in the bar from the stools to the shot glasses and table was ice. I found the concept amazing! A hotel appeals to me but only short term as I am a fan of the summer heat and beaches.

Well, a bar I could definitely put up with. Did they chip at the bar to put ice in the glasses? Sorry, couldn't resist that lol.

Yes, I think they have those ice bars all around the world now, I have been to one too. It was nice!

Yes, an ice hotel does appeal to me. If I sleep in a hotel, I want to feel comfortably, because I payed for it, but I must admit, that sleeping in an ice hotel is something very special, you can't be in such beautiful, but also weird place every day. This is the reason why many people don't care if there is cold, and this is the reason why I would sleep in an ice hotel, of course with adequate clothes, even if there is cold.

I highly doubt that most people go for more than one night. You just do it to have done it once, and for the experience. I am not sure it is even supposed to be comfortable!

I have read about the ice hotel which is in Sweden. It is a country would visiting tn the summer time. Staying at the hotel made out of ice doesn't appeal to me at all. I think they have animal skin and fur on the beds. Therefore it wouldn't be suitable for me because I am a vegan. In addition I hate winter and cold weather. I tend to visit a foreign country when it has its sunniest weather but not high crowds. So I visited Cape Town in January when it was summer there but winter at home. Then this year I visited Vancouver in June and July. It was summer there as well as in my home country. When I went to Sweden it was in September which was early autumn. Camping in a tent in the summer time is delightful. Getting clothing suitable for a stay in the ice hotel would be very expensive. It would be less enjoyable that a winter sports trips like skiing in Sweden but staying in a normal hotel in the warm after a cold day on the snow.

I didn't know about the animal skin and fur on the bed. I'm not a vegan but I'm not into that either!
You have the right idea, visiting a country when it's at its warmest. Good for you! Is that why you travel a lot because this country just isn't..well, warm really.

I've seen enough ice and snow over the Christmas period to last a lifetime so I don't think I'll be checking into an Ice Hotel anytime soon!

Walking through it, yes, I could handle that..and a drink at the ice bar. Is there an ice bar? I hope so! Got to be rewarded for putting up with the place!
No, I couldn't stay there either!

There is an ice hotel in Quebec, the province next to mine.
I, personally, would not like to stay there either.
I do not like the coldness of winter, why would I want to stay in an ice hotel?
I assume that the naturalists ans outdoorsy type will love this.
It is sort of unique.... after all, it's only around a few months of the year.

HI Janey,
I've seen the ice hotel before on TV too. I just think its simply awesome. Doesn't it capture your imagination when they say 100% ice? It's an engineering marvel No wooden frames, no metal bars, etc. 100% ice. The first time i saw it i was like "cool". The second time i was like" Mom, can we go there for vacation". And now i'm even planning for one. In my country, we don't experience snow or ice, It's just one degree north of the equator and the heat just fries us everyday. So this would be a totally awesome for people like me.
But the sad thing is that the ice hotel will only exist for 5 months and as soon spring approaches all the ice will melt away. And they will begin constructing for the next winter. i

Well, I'm glad you're enthusiastic about the concept my friend. I do like igloos. I love the way they are made and we learned all about them at school and it fascinated me. A hotel though..erm, not so much. Perhaps it's due to all the duff weather we're having at the moment, I just can't get into it at all!

I can't understand why some would class this hotel as being "romantic." My idea of "romantic" would be a roaring fire, a bar NOT made of ice and a bloody good bed that you don't have to wear hundreds of layers of clothing to sleep in!
Failing that, the Maldives!

Ahahahaha i agree. But for people living in a tropical country like ours where every day is like a summer season and it would be heaven for us to spend a day in this hotel.

I never thought of that. You're right of course, but how long could you cope with the cold for? You're so acclimatised to the heat, the cold might make you ill. I avoid cold at all costs, I hate it

I have seen this on television and read articles about them. No it does not appeal to me. I think it is just something that people do so that they can say that they have done it. You will not catch me doing it in the near future.

I hate cold,so I think it is so weird to cost a lot to sleep in a cold ice house,it is a waste of money and sleeping in cold environment is bad for health,so I will deny it!

I've not looked into how much it would be to stay in this Ice Hotel but I bet it isn't cheap! If I want a cold environment I can go outside and stand in the ice and snow for a bit. Er, maybe not!

Oh gosh I can't even begin to imagine it, as I am anemic and always frozen. Here vacation in TN the weather is in the high 70's and I still complain that I am cold so being in a Ice Hotel I would probably be one of the sculptures.

Haha! I know what you mean. I hate the cold too as I suffer from anaemia myself. Can't stand winter at the best of times. We've had some snow (not a lot) but it's really cold and is set to last, well, probably into next week.
Not happy!

Actually, they provide you with warm clothing to keep you warm, if I am not mistaken? I am not going to say that I have always dreamed about staying in a place like this, but I do think it could be an interesting and very unusual experience to go.

I don't like the cold either, to be honest. I don't mind watching snow falling but I'm not a big fan of going out in it. An ice hotel would be my idea of hell!
