My cat and the Christmas tree.

Cats love tinsel, I don't know why, and my cat is no exception to that rule. I don't know how to keep him away from the tree and the tinsel, but I have placed it higher up where he can't easily reach it. However, when the dog knocked the tree over last week, everything went all over the place, and I've been trying since then to get tinsel back to higher branches. But somehow, my cat is finding strands close to his reach and goes after it and eats it. I do my best to find it all, but he sees stuff that isn't visible to me. I don't know how to keep him away from it, he lies under the tree and sleeps there a lot.

I do not put tinsel on the tree because the cats eat it and it can kill them. Other than that, I do not know what to tell you about this problem.

I am afraid of cats and so I don't like to keep them as my pet. I do not allow any cats to enter in my house. If I see any cat around me, I will throw them with stones. I always keep the X'mas tree inside my house and not worrying about cats.

Oh that's cruel. Don't throw stones at cats.

My cats dont mess with our tinsel on our tree. We did have this one tinsel tree that was very old and sharp and they used to try biting that. I had to get rid of it because I was afraid they would cut their tounges. My kids always end up knocking the tree over when trying to put ornaments on the tree so I have a small eye hole thing screwed into the wall and I matching color yarn around the middle of the tree to secure it from falling over. It works good.

Tinsel is not good for cats. It can even be dangerous. However, I don't know how to keep one away from it, except to put the cat and the tree in different rooms. I quit putting tinsel on the tree because of our cat.

Besides getting rid of the tinsel all together, the only thing you can really do is try to train him to stop that behavior. Go buy a new kind of treat, something really special that he'll be sure to love (or whatever his favorite treat is) and reward him with it when he doesn't mess with it (or maybe when he doesn't go near the tree at all, that could be easier) and punish him when he does. If you use some kind of human food for the treat like hamburger, tuna, sausage, etc. then when he does mess with it, just eat it all dramatically in front of him, but don't let him have any. lol. It will work, but it will probably take a lot of work and time. It all depends how much effort you are willing to put into it. I hope this is helpful. Happy mylotting. :)

While I was putting up our Christmas tree three days ago, my cat sneaked on the door and started wandering under the tree. I instantly knew what could happen so I needed to place them outside so just I could finish it. They're too cute when they play but sometimes it's not even funny when expensive things are broken if you're not cautious not to let them.

Unfortunately, the only thing to do is to keep the animals out of the room that contains the Christmas tree. This would be easier if the room had a door that could be closed, and was a room that the pets aren't usually allowed to enter.

for some reason, our cat has no interest in our Christmas tree, but when our girls were little and we first got our cat, i put bells on the bottom of the tree. when the bells rang, it told me that someone (or something) was near the tree.

I know everyone, including the cat, loves tinsel, but I suggest you don't use them. I suggest you find a different kind of decoration than tinsel or icicles to decorate your tree, perhaps those long skinny ornaments that could be used instead. You could make paper rings instead of the sparkly garland or find other kinds that are less tempting for your cat. Those things can kill

When we were kids and had a cat....at Christmas, mom stopped using what we called icicles on the tree. They were the stringy like pieces of tinsel. She read somewhere that cats love it and if they ingest it and can get in a knot in their intestine and die. So from that Christmas on we never used it again. This Christmas, we have a new kitten. She is actually at the vet today getting spayed....but am sure that we will be watching her climb up and through the tree. I do not have anything breakable,,,,but still. I'm sure it will be interesting. ...and I don't use tinsel or icicles.
