Do you know Christmas did originate from none Christians. It was pagans that celebrated it for their gods. The Christians just followed it.

I agreed with one response of mylotter that Christmas celebration was derived from pagan festival, if you study the beginning of Christmas you can see that christmas are mixture of pagan beliefs. Because no record mentioned in the bible of any artifact about the date of Jesus Christ birthday. Only bible mentioned during winter season. Then other said Christmas is for bonding and fellowship of family and others, other says praising God..
But the reality is you can praising God everyday, that's why other say everyday is Christmas... see you around

I accept visavis. Nobody knows Jesus christ's exact date of birth. But it was very cold when he was born. December 25 th is given to us to think about Jesus's birthday and give respect to it. it is not just a birthday celebration. That is a day to remember again and again the humbleness.

I actually came up to that thought because of the fact the we celebrate the day Jesus Christ was born. And for Catholics, it is the main thing that comes in people's minds. Christianity just came after he born and when he started preaching the word of the God the Father. Thanks for the added information. Merry Christmas!

I am not a Christian, and for me the true meaning of Christmas is spending time with the people you love, and really appreciating the bonds between you.
most religions have a midwinter festival, and I think that this is because it helps get us through the winter.

Infact, Christmas isn't religion at all. There is no proof that Christ was born on that day, never did Jesus or his followers celebrate his, or their own birthdays, so its clearly an external addition to the religion, a pagan practice. Coming to sharing love and Joy, why limit it to just a festive season or a holiday? Go surprise your loved ones every now and then, share love and joy whenever you can. That's real love and celebration.

I didn't mean the pagan religion, nor did the discussion starter. I guess all he asked was if Christmas is anything connected to Christianity, so I mentioned it isn't related or connected to christian religion. I might be wrong in interpreting his discussion though.

Hi starlight, Christmas is a holiday when people remember the birth of Jesus Christ. The celebration has however gotten away from it's original meaning and today has little to do with religion. Anyone can celebrate the day whether they are Christians or not. Blessings.

You are right on that. In this discussion, I don't mean to imply further than what it really means. Christmas is simply the birth of Jesus Christ. And for his existence, Christian Faith was introduced to the people and the must be remembered during this special day. Have a Merry Christmas!

Christmas is a day where Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, and thsoe that arent' Christian won't, as it is just another day to them, a day that they can celebrate with family and friends. I do think that Christmas has become very commercialized, and Jesus is all but forgot in it, and that is sad too. I know that there is nowhere in teh bible that we are to celebrate his birth, but I am glad we do, as it helps us to remember that he did come to earth as a baby. Sure, it is pagan in all actuality, but we should remember to keep Christ in it. We really don't know when Jesus was born, but since Decemeber 25, has been set aside for his birth, then we should remember Jesus on that day. Take care, and have a very good day.

I am a Srilankan Christian. Sri Lanka is not a christian country. Only 7% christians are there. There christmas is not a commercial things. there really we concentrate on Jesus. the preachings make us to think about jesus and his lessons. Celebrating christmas is not a culture there. Now I am living in Germany 100%christian country. Here I see it as commercial and culture. any how I am proud that the whole world is happy on the christmas day though the believe and reasons differs

It's not actually Jesus. It's the faith that was passed on to us. He was just an instrument that he was made as a living sacrifice and so we commemorate the day he was born and the day we were taught to have "faith". Merry Christmas!

Actually Christmas is the Christians way of celebrating a Pagan Holiday known as Yule.
http://www.christianitytoday.com/ch/news/2000/dec08.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yule
So you could still celebrate a Christmas like holiday as Yule involves everything that Christmas does. As for the praising Jesus Christ thing that isn't true completely as Jews celebrate on that day as well.
Also Christmas isn't just about religion it is the time of year where retailers finally are rollin in the money because everyone is buying and buying. So this is also a holiday for anyone who is in the business world as they are going to be making more than they do any other time of the year.

Nope. Christmas is not about religion. Christmas is the Christian way of commemorating the birth of the Saviour, Jesus, the Christ. But as time pass by, the Christians, by way of sharing their love towards their fellow men, had extended the meaning of Christmas to men of different faiths. That is why Christmas had become universal. It is now celebrated even in the farthest corners of the globe, wherever it is that the story of that Babe in the manger had been narrated. It had taken two milleniums to propagate the faith worldwide. The Muslims and the Buddhists, the Taoists, and many others, do not believe in our Jesus, but they do love celebrating Christmas because of that inherent human nature of sharing love, peace, and joy on Christmas day.

It should be a holiday which is mostly a religious one, but unfortunately it has become a common, a sort of a profan celebration. I see that for many of us the most important thing is to do shopping and other material stuff. Of course, it is important to make gifts for our beloved ones, but the greatest gift comes from elsewhere. This is the time when we receive the baby Jesus in our lives and souls and that should make us happy. And we should share this joy with others, especially the family, because we all know that a shared joy is a greater joy.
