This is my 39th Christmas of my married life and of putting up my Christmas decorations.
I have been putting up my decorations today, and as I was decorating my outside Christmas tree and making my usual little 'North Pole' in my garden I was doing so amidst falling snow.
This is the first time in all my 39 years of doing the decorations that this has happened - it certainly made me feel more festive - and VERY cold!!
HAve you put your decorations up - and was it in the snow for you too

I live in the southern U.S. so can't really say it snows here. It does get in the 30's but that is about it. My family never put up many decorations, we do have a tree we put up every year and like a lot of people will add home made decorations to it.

I would love a little of you warmth right now!
Looking out of the window now it looks very pretty here, everywhere is white and the big flakes of snow are falling heavily.
My outdoor Christmas tree 9which has grown so much in the last five years since we planted it) has coloured lights twinkling in the dark amidst the snow. It may look nice, but underfoot is treacherous and it is very, very cold - I doubt that our car would manage to get up the hill on the road outside our cottage!!

I lost interest in decorating a few years ago. I found that most of my decorations were shelf sitting dust collectors and some got forgotten when un-decorating. I used to hang garland over doorways and windows, hang shiny Christmas balls from them, but I guess I'm just too tired to put the effort in. We don't have guests at our home over the holidays. The last couple of years my husband and children have been able to stay home Christmas Day, just ourselves, instead of going to my parents' house since my father passed away and Mom sold the house. The kids (they're 17 and 14) do most of the decorating for holidays now, with a little help from hubby.
I have been off work for 14 years due to illness and we've been struggling financially. I think that kind of puts my out of the Christmas spirit when I know that I just don't have the money to spend. I would rather stick to the church festivities, the REAL reason for Christmas.
We used to decorate the outside with lights only but stopped a couple of years ago. We'd have to go out to the garage to unplug the lights at night and I found using the extra electricity was wasteful, especially if someone forgot to turn the lights off. And now hubby has a bum back and leg so he won't be climbing any ladders.
Sorry to sound bah humbug. Perhaps if I had nicer decorations (fewer shelf-sitters) I would decorate more but it's just not affordable for us right now.

I have to admit until moving to a far smaller house my decorating has decreased massively.
I used to live in a large four bedroomed Victorian house with 16 foot high ceilings - our Christmas tree always almost reached the ceiling and took hours to decorate.
My instructions from my kids were always to have my hall 'like a grotto' - I had a a large stuffed Santa that stood in the small front hall with a sack of candy canes and a tin of biscuits for the grandkids to dip in. This picture is the last Christmas in my old house with my grandson about to have a biscuit. That Santa now lives at one of my daughter's house as my cottage just doesn't have the room for it!
I still love to decorate for Christmas, but it certainly is a lot more low key these days!!

We didn't get up our blow up Santa again this year.....the ground froze before my husband got it up.
We have put up decorations with freezing fingers many times....that is not fun.
I bet your decorations look great.
Merry Christmas!

It doesn't snow here and I don't really put up our decorations cuz 9 times out of 10 I'll ruin the whole thing. They'd rather I just eat the food and help wrapping the gifts for Christmas reunion than help them decorate.

We will not be putting up decorations yet for a few days, as we are not real Christmassy types. To a certain extent I wish that we had, as we have just picked u a rescue cat from the RSPCA. He is very nervy about his new surroundings and gone into hiding: not unusual. He is eating OK so I guess it's just time for him to settle in. During that time I would have liked to change things as little as possible. Too late now! He will just have to discover a 6' white tree of his own accord one night when he is on his nocturnal wanderings.

We were going to put them up today, but it looks as if it may be tomorrow. I thought it was going to be warmer today and we have a lot of stuff in an outdoor shed and in the basement. As well as some in the attic. This will be the first year in a long while that I will go "all out". No snow yet, but we need moisture.

It was snowing today, but I have not yet started to put up my decorations because I still have to buy them. I have decided not to go out decoration shopping yet because of the poor weather over the past week.
I did go outside to check to see if I had a shovel in my shed in order to dig my car when I next go out in the car. Not very festive lol.

How ironic. I had taken my curtains down from our front picture window and was decorating it today. I didn't get it finished, so the curtains are still off and, as we were sitting and watching a movie, we looked out through the curtainless window and noticed tiny snowflakes falling. Not a lot, only a slight flurry, but it was snowing! The first snow of the year for us.
At least it waited until December this year. Last year, on November 3rd, we had a major snowstorm that gave us 33 inches of the white stuff. So, not only was it really nice to see even a tiny bit of snow today, I am so very thankful that we've started out this season a LOT closer to normal, although it is a bit colder than normal for this time of year. But, I can take cold any day over that 8+ feet of snow we got last year!
Anyway, I'm glad that you got to experience the snow while decorating for Christmas. It sure helps to set the mood, doesn't it?

We haven't put up our tree yet, as we usually cut down a real tree the second weekend of December. I have put up decorations around the house, put Christmas towels in the bathrooms, and changed the dining room table cloth to a Christmas one. Hubby will probably put lights up around the house this weekend. We haven't had any snow, however it has been very cold down here in Southeastern US. A bit too cold for my taste!

Hi oldchem! If I were in your place, I would definitely love the festive and Christmas mood as well. Being a native of Philippines, I never experience snow and that is my ultimate dream, to exactly knew what's being in a snowy place feels like. I am so happy for you because me too, likes to decorate our home during Christmas its just that I can't do it for now. My OB Gyne requested me to have a bed rest for 2 weeks. I am pregnant with my second baby and I just follow what my doctor instructs me for I don't want to lose my baby, that's why for now, I can't decorate our home with Christmas decors. I hope we'll be fine the next time we visit our OBGyne, advance Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I've always wished I could put up my own decorations however we don't celebrate Christmas at our home. We always go to my aunt's because they have bigger house, they have the ginormous feast, and all our relatives celebrate the eve there. I never really felt the aura of x-mas since no one bothers to shape our house to a more christmasy presentation. So, what I do is, i walk around our neighborhood where almost everyone has their x-mas light flickering , and enjoy the walk in the cold evening feeling the high wind. ;)
