the reason i am upgrading is that my mother board which is a P4 needs to be replaced. and Pentium 4 as mostly know is an old school. i can't find now to find any brand new pentium 4 out in the store. so i have no choice than to buy or upgrade to dual core. but i had been wanting to buy or upgrade to dual core ever since. but i was just waiting for my computer to die on me before i upgrade. now my computer has not been working for a week and has been on the technician's shop. i was adviced to buy a processor . he advised me to buy amd instead. but the shops advised me to buy intel instead. so i am quite confused. any ways, and the motherboard of course i need to buy ECS brand.
and other parts of the computer can still be used. i only need to buy motherboard and a compatible dual core processor either amd or intel. i am quite excited to upgrade also to a dual core. cause i have read or heard. that dual core is much faster compared to the old school Pentium 4. and i have already memory card for dual core. so hopefully i can get my computer fixed by tomorrow. i will buy the replacement parts

I think you should buy both Mainboard and processor, you can upgrade to core i5 or i7, it's good.

I guess, Dual core and core 2 duo are getting outdated, they are now being replaced by i3, i5 and i7 processors....
I recommend you to buy the amd phenom 2 processors..They are available within the short range of $150..
They are quite a gaming experienced processors...
U can buy Nvidia board for that...
Now, i am using Dual Core processor and i'm thinking to replace it sooner or later to phenom processor for it's multitasking purpose....and also gaming experience...

wow dual core processors getting outdated too. is dual core pretty slow. is dual core not good for gaming. that made me think. i may buy that also as my second computer. i will save for that. but for now i will just buy dual core as that is what i can only afford for now.

wow it is i3, i5. but since i am not a gamer, i won't need to buy that i3. i think dual core is quite fine with me. as i only mostly use computer for browsing the net.

dual core processor @ 2 GHz will cost around 3000 rite? consider amd and ask for some solutions to experts with your expectations and find an answer whether to buy dual core or amd phenom processor...

Hi, I would recommend you to use Intel Core 2 Processor instead of to use Dual Core processor. I tell you features of both processor then you can decide which one is best and useful for upgradation.
The Dual Core is Intel's first generation dual core processor based upon the Pentium M (a Pentium III-4 hybrid) made mostly for laptops (though a few motherboard manufacturers have released desktop boards supporting the Core Duo CPU), and is much more efficiently than Pentium D.
The Core 2 Duo is Intel's second generation (hence, Core 2) processor made for desktops and laptops designed from the ground up to be fast while not consuming nearly as much power as previous CPUs.
Thank you

but core 2 duo is much more expensive. so i think dual core is find already with me. i don't think i would need core 2 duo. i just need dual core for now.

your right bor, dual core is much faster than P4. And about intel and amd. As far as i know, amd has little wattage and much cheaper that intel. while intel in more wattage and more expensive than amd. I am using P4 until know. so far so good. I just uppgrade my memory and it run fast. no lags anymore. nyahaha.
