Ever since I became a manager/supervisor, people working under me always have more expensive and hi-end celphones compared to mine. I remember one of my staff dubbing my celphone as 'Jurassic'. Eight years later and it is still the case. My husband wanted to give me a hi-end cellphone for my birthday but instead, I asked him to give me an ebook reader (AmazonKindle) since its much cheaper also and i had wanted one for over a year already. It kinda amuses me when people look at my celphone and see that its so low-end. All I just want from my celphone are just the basic texting and calling and maybe a calender of sort that would remind me of things or appointments.
How about you? Are you one of those people who just have to have the latest celphone or are you one of those who would just settle for the basic?

Yes my desire to have at least one of the latest cellphone model but you know as family man I have priority before my own, so I'm okay for a normal cellphone for just calling and texting to my family... some are always updated in the fashion trend of mobile.... see you around

i think we should use cell phones according to our needs. it doesn't matter whether it's a basic or a high-end handset as long as it serves our purpose. in your case your basic handset model serves your purposes well like calling and plain texting, etc. and it perfectly suits u. there's nothing odd about that no matter what other think or say. comparison just doesn't make sense. other people may wanna use other advanced features like gprs, wi-fi, 3g, video calling, video texting, higher resolution camera with video recording, bluetooth, multi-tasking, thrid party software support, maps, gps, high quality music playback, touch screen, etc. well, they may go for high-end handsets in that case as long as they utilize those features. but people shouldn't just compare handsets and say this and that. use what u want according to your needs. there are many people who use high-end handsets just for the prestige, to show off without actually using utilizing much of the features. that's just a waste of money and valuable resources u know.
i like technology and gizmos so i've had several high-end handsets over the past several years ranging from sony ericsson W810i, nokia 3250, N81, N82 and E63. i bought them because of the features they have and my desire to use those features. in addition to the basic features the main features i like are multi-tasking, software support, music, a decent camera (say 2-5mp), web browsing facility like gprs, hsdpa, wi-fi, 3G, and some others according to the time and situation. so it makes sense in my case, that's what i'd like to think. i never compare handsets with others. i'm totally feature-driven in my choice for handsets, not even the looks. but after i lost my last two high-end handsets (N82 and E63) in quick succession this year i'm compelled to be content with a basic Motorola W388 that supports only music with memory card and a VGA camera in addition to the basic features, not even bluetooth's there. i just didn't bother to buy another, not for some time at least.
so, according to me - we should use the right cell phones according to our needs and choices without bohering the least about anything else.

I so agree with you. There were times that peer pressure would 'almost' make me buy a new hi end cellphone but so far I was really able to be really sensible and was able to stop myself for buying. I just don't need those extra features for now. Maybe time would come that my job would create the need for me to get cellphone with more features to make me more effective then I would definitely do that. But for now, its just basic. Thanks for responding!

Yes, i love the high end cellphones..I'm looking forward to buy an android based mobile phone sooner or later..
It is important that the culture around is changing and we should also change.
If u just hang on with the older version then i have multiple questions for u..
Why do u want to upgrade to a LCD TV? why don't u view it in a normal Black and white TV? u just want to see the movie rite?
There will be many questions asked..Mobile phone is not the only issue, why does it require a high end to operate on...This can be also told to processors, like i3, i5 and i7 processors!!!

I beg to disagree. LCD is way different than cellphones. As far as TV is concerned, the more advanced the better. I honestly could not say for cellphones. LCD is still for viewing no matter how advance. For cellphones, the other features that seems attractive before buying but when you have it already, it would appear to be not that useful, well, just for me. That is why I would still opt for the basic cellphone.

I choose my phone based on how I feel. My first cellphone was a Nokia 2100, the next was a Sony Ericsson J300i. After that, I was interested in slide phones and there came my Samsung L760m used for two years and every phone was based on contract basis. Now my current phone was a touch phone as my interest slowly shifted to touch phones. Now I'm quite happy with my LG KU550. Well, basically I'm not that type of cellphone geek whereby I don't go mad when I see cellphones. Nowadays, quite a lot of people are using the iPhone but I don't quite like it as it's going to be common among people, and I don't like to use things which are common. Another things with it is the software which is vulnerable to attacks. I'm not sure whether they've changed it but that's what I heard. If you just need a basic phone, then stick to your principles. Let others say what they want. However much they say, the phone is your and you have every right to use whatever you want. So, just follow your heart

Sometimes I can't help thinking of getting a more high end cellphone due to the encouragement of my friends and even my husband. But so far, I have been very careful. It's not a matter of being able to afford to buy one but its a matter of if i need it. I guess I will always follow my heart as far as cellphone is concerned. It's part of my principle of living in modestly. Thanks you for responding!

I"m into cellphones. IN the past, i don't care too much about hi end phones because i'm a student back then. I don't need all the fanciful functions in my cellphone and so i'm contented with a basic one. ONce i enter the working world, everything changes and i realise i need more than a hi end phone, i need a smart phone. There are so many advantages to it, and i'm using it more often than ever, be it for my own personal usage or business needs.

Hello cdparazo! I am not really into mobile phones, I chose practicality rather than having the latest mobile phone which is very costly. My husband is the opposite of me though, he got lots of mobile phones and does not want to limit himself with the old and battered phone even if it cost him much. Well, he's got money to buy it so I just let him, lol! Cheers!

In actual fact I have just cancelled my current cellphone contract! I hardly ever use it, I guess I needed one because I wanted it for emergencies if I broke down in the car and I use it for texting, although not that much! I would rather not have one, they can be very intrusive and expensive. I am going to get a much cheaper one just for emergencies only. Mine is switched off most of the time. It's more of a necessity than a luxury and I just don't have the money, even if I did I wouldn't buy an expensive one or one with lots of gadgets!

It is supposed to be a PHONE. I get whichever comes free with my 2 year contract. I just have to have a phone that works. If you a happy with it, that is all that matters.

I've had fancy phones. I bought the blackberry pearl 6 months after it came out. It was $300 with a 3 year contract.... and it was a piece of junk. The keyboard was annoying and the track ball broke after one year. It kept freezing and I'd have to reset it and loose all my contacts and calendar dates. Luckily it was under warrantly the two times it broke down. However it got stolen and I was really happy. I also had to pay extra money just to use the internet. I went and got the cheapest smart phone.
This one was the Samsung jack Luckily it only cost $35. Its keyboard was way better. however it kept freezing. I had it replaced 4 times in the year I owned it. Each time I lost all my contacts. I couldn't use it as an agenda planner.
So I was very happy when I moved to an area where that company had no service. So they canceled it and waived the early cancelation fees.
I bought almost the cheapest phone. Its got a keyboard but and a small camera. its great and cheap. Works better than the expensive phones.
So good on you! Don't be afraid of the new fancy phones but cheap ones can be better!

My husband wanted to give me a samsung phone, the more expensive version, but i declined. I'm just happy with my good old phone. But he still got me the Nokia expressmusic but all its other features are wasted on me. If I want music, i rather use my ipod shuffle and if I want a picture I have my digicam. So hurray still to old and more basic cellphone.

I used to be so particular about cellphones. I often look for the flashy ones and most often buy the high end type. The last phone that I bought which was very attractive at that time was the Samsung Omnia. Well, I have realized that new cellphone models comes out almost every month. I also realized that the objective is for communications. So I have stopped looking for new ones and stick it out with my omnia.

I'm the type of girl that has to have all the updated phones. I just love technology and I'm quick at learning how to use them. I just love the looks of the phone and how it has many applications to use. I use it for internet, texting and calling. My phone is my life I would die without it. Some people I know stick to old school phones and don't care about the new ones. New phones are expensive so I can understand that. But I like to be up to date on things and not left out...

No I don't. I only used my cellphone for communication purposes only, some phones have a built in cameras but i will buy separate camera instead for taking pictures it is more comfortable used and high quality of photos than cellphone cameras
Hi-end cellphones is good for those who know how to use its features or it is applicable to their work.
I'm using Nokia 2310 for my work i can call and text fast, very easy to use and comfortable.

I would definitely settle for the basic. I dont require hi-end phone which I will never be comfortable with. I like a simple one which can be used for messaging, taking calls, some reminders like birthdays, anniversaries, etc. to be remembered to wish my near and dear ones.

I love new gizmos that are rocking on the market, but in as far as a cellphone is concerned, I am still happy with my Nokia 6230i because it kinda seems to ahve all that I need: FM radio, video recorder, bluetooth. These are the "majors" for my ideal phone. I have not yet "ventured" into smart phones!

Dear friend,
I usually used a those mobile phones for just phoning and text. But later when the technology advanced more and more latest products appeared it is seen that at a period of less time new phones with advanced technology is in market, provided it might be bit costly. Still I would like to move according the advancement, but the change in technology of mobile phones are too fast for me to opt new phones every time. May be I would just get those new technologies knowledge from internet and use my old phone for basic features of a normal phone.

Yes, I am really into it. What I need for having a high-end cellphone is for the applications that I need for my daily activities. I am very forgetful. I need a calendar of activities which corresponds an alarm to remind me. I need also to be reminded by the Birthdays of my friends and families coz I often forget them. I love listening to music when I am relaxing. So I need a music player at least from my cellphone. I need to connect to internet when I am away so a high end cellphone enables me to read and send emails. These are just some of the features I needed. Currently, I own a not so high end cellphone but at least it has most of the features that suits my lifestyle...

the preference of cellphone changes from one generation to another.I believe todays generation are more techie and wanted to have high end cellphones or electronic gadgets. i had attended a seminar that talks about the different generations it is pointed there that todays generation are into having different kind of electronic gadgets. It would really depend on each personality. Still having cellphone serves one purpose that is for us to communicate to one another.
