Do you fix your own computer?

I wonder just how many of you ever attempted to fix your own computer? I have been tinkering with my computer for years and with trial and error I feel confident fixing it myself when it looks pretty sick. With new recovery tools it is even easier today. Unless it is hard drive problem then I seek the expert's help. The funny thing is, I can mostly fix my own PC or laptop easily but I have quite a difficulty fixing others. How about you, do you dare do it yourself?

And I am pretty sure that, that resourcefulness of yours saves you a lot of money! You no longer need to pay expensive service fee from cellphone technicians like me. Actually, all of us here can become cellphone technicians.. We just have to be willing how to become one.

Oh, I'm sorry. It's computer technician, and not cellphone technician. That's the problem with being a computer technician and a cellphone technician at the same time. Sometimes you get confused.

Honestly I never tried to fix my own computer because I am afraid that I might make it more worst. So I am always asking my husband to do it for me because he is an expert in it.

It is always great to have someone who knows very well about the computer. I would suggest you to watch your husband doing and to do it your own and would ask you to ask the help of your husband if you have any doubts.

Well my dad is an IT expert but i have no idea about computer and hardware except using them. I usually try to replug all the wires. that's all i can do and try to reboot my computer twice or thrice most of the time, my dad (who is now an assistant VP of an IT company) is a skilled technician, but his skills were not inherited by me. Most of the time i just try to get help from my dad.

I think it is great for your dad to know all the hardware mechanism. I think it would be great for someone to know about the problems of the computer because most times we will be able to find solution for the problems the computer has.

hi, I fix my computer, when it comes to minor problems like loose contact cable in the cpu. Formatting installing, smps, fan cleaning fixing fan on the processor changing hard disk. etc. If it is something major I take the help of my service center. I check it before taking it or calling the service center. If I could solve it here at my on my home. The more you try to fix the expert you are. Happy fixing, Calpro

Yeah, whenever my computer has a problem I fix it myself. I'm not a computer expert or anything but I always somehow figure out what to do lol. Albeit I must admit I've never had any problems with my computer that were really that major.

I have no aptitude for it. So no I don't. My hubby on the other hand is a bit of a wiz. So it usually ends up on his "things to do " list.

Yes, i do it myself and i even help my friends fixing it... Even if we encounter any problems , we could find the solutions through internet. I have been analyzing many queries and i have found many answers on what are the problems that could cause the PC not to function properly !!!

For some of the lower end problems, that I know exactly how to fix them, I will. However, anything that I don't know what's wrong or if I do, but do not know exactly how to fix it, I call in the technician. I have one really close to my house, so it is easy to get him up there pretty fast. In fact, he built the new computer that I have been using over the past couple of months and it is pretty nice. I think I am comfortable with fixing somethings. However, if you are really not comfortable with fixing something, it is best to call someone who has a job of doing thing. Messing around with a computer and not really knowing what you are doing, it is just going to cause more problems to say the very least. So in the end, it is down to the problem whether or not I am able to fix it.

Well, as of this day, I have been trying to figure out how to fix this laptop of mine. Maybe you can help me out if you can? My laptop seems to be hanging up almost all the time when booting via normal mode on Vista 32bit. But, I can log normally without problem using Safe mode. It never hangs or resets all of a sudden on safe mode. If you can please do give me any advise.

I usually fix my computer on my own with the use of internet.. there are lots of guides around. It may be risky at some point but its worth the try, at least I'm learning so whenever that problem pops out from my computer again, then I'll be able to fix it easily.

I'm starting to learn how to fix them, it's a very good skill set to have. Fixing software is easy since you can search online for the problem and get the solution. Upgrading the hardware is a little more tricky, especially if its your only computer that is being upgraded, but after the few times under the hood, the skills are easy to pick up.

Nowadays the design of the computer is easily to be fixed. I were fixing my computer for the minor problems as the replacement of the burnt power supply unit, to reload or to repair the operating program, the replacement of the dial up internal modem, the replacement of a hard disk and so on. About the RAM and Graphic cards, I sent to the technician to replace it. First of all, I had no idea about the compatibility of my motherboard to certain brand and model of the RAMs and the Graphic cards that were available in the market. After using the computer for so long, I am sure everyone should have the general knowledge about the problem of our computer. The experience and the facilities to fix the computer is very important too. In my opinion, when there is any major problem of my computer, I still have to send to the relevant technician to fix it.

yes, i do. i graduated from a computer university 5 years ago, and each day that God created, i always use computers, and deal with problems on it that i encounter. there are times that my knowledge is not enough and good thing is that there are back up computers that i can use to search the internet for other solutions. i also learn from experiences, and sometimes, failures can make me a better fixer. and i admit, even with hundred counts, those 5-volt DC shocks do still tickle me so bad :D
