A MyLot Question For You?

Do you think MyLot should be more specific as to how they pay items completed by Mylotters? For example - 10 cents (that would be nice)for starting a conversation or 1 penny for commenting and responding back on a discussion possibly 2 cents for resolving a discussion and etc. Do you think there should be a page posted itemizing each task and what it is worth? Is this discussion illegal here on MyLot?

I like your clear and to the point answer. I also like the fact that you are the first one to answer my illegal question so far so I am going to have to honor you by giving you the best response award.

I believe that mylot has their own ways of calculating the earnings. It's really no use speculating how they do this also. Everyone has their own theories on this. However, there would probably not much genuine discussion if there was a list of items you can get paid for. In fact, there are still some people who respond with 1 or 2 words here on mylot. They will not be paid for such posts. One of the goals here is to encourage discussion. Once pay per item is installed, genuine discussions are going to be difficult, as people would be more interested in doing some things over others.

I agree with you totally. MyLot is perfect the way that it is . It is puzzling to me that we still see one worded responses here on MyLot.

I'm sorry to say that I am not here to agree on this one. :( If Mylot has those specifics then probably a lot of its users will not be happy. Be aware that some of us here do not really respond to a thread of discussion in a qualitative manner, which is Mylot is not happy about , and others are really serious about giving their best thoughts, I think it'd be unfair to the latter if she/he will get the same amount the former is receiving. Also, Mylot can no longer control the quality of such discussion because if we do have such fix amount regardless of its relevance, then, there's no need to be really putting an effort. Plus, those who responded irrelevantly will be disappointed if they will not get even a penny for their work. On the other hand, granting everybody is a responsible poster , commenter and respondent, everything is fair and according to Mylot standard, then, being specific about the payment will give us transparency on how much we will be earning for a day work. There's no guessing game here. However, this is next to impossible as we all know... You're idea is a sound one, though.:)

I prefer this system they have now. I'd like to just stay guessing at how they pay us.

I think there is no other way this site can work. If it were any other way it could only be messy and frustrating for the staff.

Hi CoffeeAnyone! I believe it's not easy to quantify the value of a post in monetary terms. While one liner is not accepted, again it's difficult to say how many lines would make a decent discussion or a response. The tendency is to give the minimum, if it's quantified and made known, and ultimately quality suffers. The element of surprise here adds to the excitement of myLotting and does serve a purpose.

I am quite happy with how MyLot works myself. However I am so surprised that so far the majority are also contented with how MyLot works. I think this is great and MyLot should feel proud of their accomplishment.

I'll say no to this one too. Mylot's rules and guidelines have been stable for many years and this rule has helped a lot of people here to be free and not to use mylot alone for earning money but for making friends and airing out their grievances. If such rule would be made, there might be a risk of losing this site due to abuses and I don't want that to happen.

I feel confident that you are absolutely right about that.

It will never be something simple like that. In order to have payment, there must be some kind of income. In order to have that, you can't have just any "discussion," it has to be something that generates income. We were already told to post quality discussions. That's just common sense. Why should myLot pay for a "discussion" that just asks a question? Or any discussion that does not generate income? From all the discussions vie seen, myLot would go broke pretty fast if they did that.

Yes quality discussions are so important to the success of MyLot. Good reminder that I need to keep myself in check about.

Probably no, not just because your idea of payment is a little unrealistic (10 cents per discussion started? Yeah right! They would go bankrupt lol), but also because I kind of like the element of surprise. I mean, yeah, it would be cool to be paid more.. But at the same time, there is no such thing as free money (and it already kind of is, if you ask me). I don't know. Also, I like the feeling that people get better "pay" for their responses when they're more thoughtful and longer. It would be unfortunate to get paid the same as a person who wrote a one-word discussion response as a person who wrote a long, thoughtful response. You know what I mean?

I am laughing as my 10 cent comment was me exaggerating just because I am sure we all wish we could be paid more for starting a discussion. But the main reason I started this discussion was I was reading through some old and new MyLot discussions and the subject of payment as been talked about quit a bit. So I thought I would lay it out this way and see what people really think. I am actually glad payment is a bit of a mystery because of course people would do only what they needed to otherwise and this site wouldn't be so much fun.

That for me is an absolute no. They are not specific about their pay as they want to avoid users that will game their system. Furthermore, MyLot is worth more than money it gives. Even me as a newcomer feels myLot as more than what it gives to me...

Fantastic response can you expand on what exactly MyLot does for you. I have read comments through the years about people feeling it helps them learn english better but also helps them feel connected to people.
