The vote has gone against England after a gallant attempt by people like Prince William and David Beckham to get England chosen as the venue for the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
The World Cup will now be held in Russia.
What is your opinion on this decision?

This is going to sound so negative, but I'm not surprised. They probably took one look at our Olympic preparations and decided it would be a shambles. I cannot speak for London, where all of the money seems to be being spent, but look at the sailing.
It's to be based in Weymouth. From Southampton most of the road to Weymouth is A road; not even dual carriageway. At times, during an ordinary summer, you can get traffic built up most of the way from Weymouth to Dorchester, since there is only one main road. Unless you know the area you will not know the back roads.
Those who travel by train will fare no better. Unless you travel early morning/ late evening there is often standing room only for commuters, let alone sailing fans. With less than two years to go the only infrastructure being put into the Waterloo to Weymouth line is the refurbishment of the toilets at Bournemouth. Clapham Junction cannot handle any more traffic either.

England should be satisfied with the Olympic Games. I think they should have known that it is very hard to organize to major events like that in such a short period of time. I am not saying that these two events have something to do with each other, they are organized by two different federations, but it has an influence on how people are thinking about this. I can say that Russia has many wealthy persons who can make this a great success but the biggest issue is that Russia is too big and the distances between the stadiums are too big as well. I would have picked Spain and Portugal, but Eastern Europe has deserved to organize a World Cup.
Will see how they will manage to organize it.

Two completely different events completely.
I have a VERY disappointed son who thought that he may have got a chance to watch a world cup game live - there's no way he can get to Russia!!
Considering that England is considered the 'home'of soccer it's 44 years since the World Cup was held here!

You are right, but as far as I know Russia has never organized a World Cup. I think for me it is no difference, I will probably not go neither to Russia and I probably would have gone to England neither.

I am really disappointed that England haven't won the bid to host the 2018 World Cup but well done to Russia. I am very surprised that England came last in the voting and I feel there is something up with that.

From the angle of the football, the more country host the world cup, the better to help spread the football. Since the Olympic will be held in England in 2012, I have the same concern as the upstairs, could they able to orginize these two big events in such short period? and Russia is wealthy enough and never hold the world cup in the region before, it's a good choice to offer the opportunity to a nation isn't the major power in the world.
