How do you answer if you are ask to “describe yourself” during the job interview?
Are you also confident enough to express yourself or sometimes you are having hesitations?
Often times when I was asked to describe myself I always answer that I am responsible and diligent enough to do the task that is willing to work under pressure. But then sometimes of course I am still having my hesitations because I am thinking otherwise of the things that I should tell them that I want them to know.

Hi Metatronik,
I so hate that question and others similar to it! When someone asks me something like that my mind just goes blank. I am responsible. I show up to work on time every time. I'm honest and I try hard to do a good job. Pretty much everyone would say that so I think they want to hear something that would make them want to hire me instead of the others that applied with the same claims. We never see ourselves as others do and no one sees us the same so whats to say? Last year I went on a date with this guy. He goes, "tell me a funny story". I suddenly could not think of one funny story.

I totally agree that it could be really hard to think of funny stories right away. And yes it happens to me that sometimes I am having my mental block but then I am hoping that the interviewer won't think that I don't know myself.

I remember I told the interviewer that I love arguing in forums and that is really my hobby. But now I am not doing it especially when it comes to earning from posting.

For me, I'll just tell out everything I possess, of course the positive things. I'll spit out every single thing, like my hobbies, my likes and everything. Most importantly, what are my personality traits, what I think I'm like. Most people get nervous when asked these kinds of questions at interviews but I feel that you have to be yourself in order to pass that interview.

Ouch! because it includes me that getting nervous when asked this. Because there are times that I can't even describe myself.

Well, in my case when I'm asked to describe myself in a job interview, I know that I have to describe me with only good qualities, so I will look better in the eyes of the interviewer, and my chances of getting the job will rise. I know that I can't say things like "I'm not willing to do overwork", but lie and say that I wouldn't mind doing that instead, as it's important to go past this first step. Once you're in your job, then you can make yourself valuable, but before it's not bad to lie a little

Before you go to the interview, know first the history of the company. What are their line of business or their goods and services. Next is to do some research about the job position. What are the traits and qualities that they are looking for an applicant. Then, the last thing is to do some autobiographical research. Look for the power words which can describe your personality. To answer the question, I would usually tell the interview how I view myself at that moment.
