Hi Mylotters especially from those in Manila, Philippines. =) I was wondering there if any of you knows a good paying company for my bf. He has a computer engineering degree and has more than 3 years of experience in systems and network administration. However, during this year, he's earning very less and is not even enough for their living expenses considering he's a bread winner in the family. He's been with Sun Microsystems and for a not so smart move, he left them few months ago. Now, he's regretting it. He transferred in a manufacturing company with the same position but with no salary increase on the offer. I do not want to fire up my disappointment on him here but I just want ask you guys if you know any company that could pay him fairly enough for his work experience and skill set. Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I do not know. He is in a good field though, so hopefully something will be found. Any chance he can go back to Sun? I realize that would be humbling, but it might be worth a brief bout of humiliation and awkwardness. It does not make him less of a man to admit he made a mistake.

Yes, I hope so too. It is hard to get settled in life when we do not have a suitable job.

He tried so, but for the same position he was before, that would be impossible now. He had been replaced. But since part of the shares has been bought by Oracle, it is now named after British telecom as they say, he is waiting that a good post would open up for him the soonest. Hopefully!

Have him apply at Asian Dev't Bank (ADB),International Schools (there are a lot around manila especially at The Fort, Global City and McKinley Area, Accenture, IBM (if he would welcome a shifting schedule), or World Bank, the different embassies located mostly in Makati neighboring cities. There are many companies out there, it is just a matter of applying at the right time, and having the right qualifications of course. The companies I mentioned are companies I know offer good compensation and benefits. Hope your bf finds the perfect job for him!

I know a whole lot of list too but I am trying to have a good shot on companies that have openings for his credential which I have quite specified. And as I have said he did tried applying even to those you have mentioned. I am just hoping some one here would be able to do a "referral" thing for me. Just hoping. Anyhow, thanks for the list. But what's with the International schools? I'll let him try ADB though.

There are a whole lot of companies in Manila where you can let your boyfriend try to work in. But, I think Manila is just too over saturated.

Uhm, of course there are a LOT of companies out here and yes he has tried several times but it's either he does not get called up again or the offer is just the same as his current or even lower.

its really hard to find a job here in the Philippines. sometimes you dont have the choice to choose which company you would want to work for because they are already filled up. just try to apply for good company which has available jobs that suits your bf's skills. let him work hard so that the company will see his efforts and promote him. in this kind of economy, you can never really be choosy especially companies would want more to hire fresh graduate students.

I could fairly understand that, that's why I gave a very short summary of his degree, work experience and previous company. We are both in the IT industry but just like the demand and supply socio-economic explanation, his field has too many of that already causing the chances of growth to impede especially if you don't have professional certifications under your belt. But for my case, who's in the Business Intelligence industry, it's on its way of being known so we have good compensation and benefits. Luckily, it's also not that hard to find a job for me. So it's a case to case basis. Now, I am just hoping someone could be of help. Of course he's working hard as this is expected from each and everyone but on a manufacturing company like his there is no promotion for his field like in Sales there is an assistant, junior, senior etc.

Yep. He's really looking for one. Sun has a complicated management system right now because of the acquisition of Oracle and Birtish Telecom still holding on to its share. Since he has also been replaced, it's impossible at this moment.
