I've been diagnosed to have Stage 1 hypertension. I've been taking maintenance medications for over a year now. However, I want to support it with a healthy diet by eating natural foods. What kind of foods helped you control hypertension or lower and stabilize your blood pressure?

Yes,garlic is good for hypertensives. You can also try switching coffee for green tea which is natural diuretic which can lower your sodium level.Avoid food with high levels of salt like canned goods, instant noodles, processed food and tomato juice. You should also cut fats in your diet.Avoid using oil when cooking and remove chicken skin and visible fat from meats. As much as possible avoid food with mayonnaise and cheese because it's high in cholesterol which can aggravate hypertension.Increase fruits and vegetables in your diet and consume lot fibers.

I had hypertension myself and well i was advised not to eat fatty foods and of course to not eat salty foods because that would increase the blood pressure too. just drink lots of water too and it will help regulate your blood pressure...

Hi hippiemomdiaries, Hypertension or high blood pressure, as it is more commonly known, is regarded as a silent killer. It is a disease of the modern age. The fast pace of life and the mental and physical pressures caused by the increasingly industrialized and metropolitan environments have a role to play in the rise in blood pressure. High blood pressure can be treated effectively and controlled with medications and lifestyle modifications. Treating high blood pressure should not be taken lightly however and your doctor’s instructions should be followed meticulously. Attempts at controlling high blood pressure naturally are not advised. High blood pressure cannot be cured permanently and a reduction of high blood pressure symptoms should not be taken as a sign to stop treating high blood pressure. If you are looking for foods to control hypertension, there here is the list: Bad eating habits contribute significantly to unhealthily high blood pressure levels, even in middle age, when blood pressure levels typically rise as part of the ageing process. Below mentioned are Four food factors that can help you in combating hypertension: 1.Vegetarian Diet Medical experts suggest that a vegetarian's diet contains the wholesome ingredients that are essential to deter high blood pressure. People who choose to eliminate meats from their diets, specifically, vegetarians, have significantly lower blood pressure level and reduced incidents of hypertension and other cardiovascular conditions. A vegetarian's diet offers more potassium, complex carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fats, fiber, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C and vitamin A. 2.Fiber A high fiber diet is useful in treatment and prevention of many forms of cardiovascular disease including high blood pressure. The types of dietary fiber that you eat are important to determine effectiveness. Hypertension is helped by water soluble gel- forming fibers such as oat bran, apple pectin, psyllium seeds, and guar gum. 3.Sugar Many people are unaware that the common table sugar or sucrose elevates blood pressure. There is a possibility, according to experts, that the sugar stimulates the adrenalin; thereby increasing blood vessel constriction and sodium retention. A diet that is high in potassium foods, such as vegetables and fruits and essential fatty acids would decrease and eliminate sucrose intake. 4.Salt In relation to hypertension, the key to a healthy eating plan is to consume meals that are lower in sodium. A high consumption of sodium along with low levels of potassium in your body results in high fluid volume and immediate dysfunction of blood pressure regulating mechanisms. Essentially, a high potassium- low sodium diet is extremely effective.

I think vegetables are good for the hypertension patients. Always try to avoid eggs, Meat etc. for your good health condition. Some free hand exercise and yoga can control your hypertension.

Hi! I was also diagnosed with Stage 2 hypertension three-years ago. I just finished the medications the doctor prescribed me and then after I went on diet. I did not take any maintenance. I ate vegetables and fruits, no fats, less salts, and less sugar. I drink banaba for my tea, and cinnamon with honey. Now my blood pressure stays normal.
