What is the idea behind getting rich?

Making someone rich means someone is getting poor, right? Can we all be rich? Can we all be poor? What the heck is a middle class? When you become rich, are you a better person? What difference does it make if you are born rich and poor? Why do you want to become rich?

The banks print currency, the rich earn it from the people buying their product, or whatever they are doing to earn the rich people money. There is only so much currency in circulation, so unless the banks print more money (which would cause inflation), the more rich people there are in the world, the more poor people. This is a difficult topic for me to get my head around, and it's weird thinking about it. But I believe there can only be so many rich people on this planet before the amount of poor people increases dramatically. Luke

Gorilla, few of us would have turned to sites such as this one if we weren't looking for more money than we have. We know, however, that what we earn here isn't much at all. Rich isn't better, but it can be easier than being poor. Most people I know would love to be rich, but are, as I am, happy if the ends meet!

No, making someone rich does not necessarily mean making someone else poor since many rich people attain their wealth by owning and operating businesses that employ people who need jobs. Of course, we can all be poor if our financial system completely collapsed but there are safeguards to prevent that. The middle class are those who are not considered to be poor or rich...who live basically normal lives with all of the usual stuff. If you are born rich you have opportunities that someone who is born poor does not have. You have access to a better education if you are rich while someone who is poor has to actually make a good education possible. Not everyone wants to be rich...I think most people would like to be secure and comfortable, but not rich. Rich is a lifestyle that I don't like. My husband's older brother is very rich. We invested in a condo project with him before they even broke ground...sold the unit before it was completed for a nice profit and could have flipped that money into another investment and on and on. But, we weren't comfortable with the risk involved so we stayed out of the game.

The question is not about being rich or poor.Nobody wants to be poor as then one has to go through a lot of troubles and lead a hand to mouth existence.Fighting for survival on a daily basis can lead to hypertension and mental and physical health problems. Then again becoming too rich also leads to mental and physical health problems as one has to manage the taxes, face threats of money extortion and blackmail from criminals etc.One should strive to earn and live comfortably without making only money as the life`s only goal. When one has sufficient funds then one should become content and not go overboard. Its not neccessary that while earning well you make someone else poor. One becomes rich on ones merit and hard work while one becomes poor by adopting all the wrong tactics like spending money unneccesarily, gambling etc.Prudence, thrift, and discipline in ones life can lead to a happy and comfortable existence. One should become self-sufficient and not dependant on others and one should never be in debt.
