Hi fellow myLotters! I read a very interesting article today: apparently NASA has discovered a new life form here on Earth that's completely different from anything we had seen before. This bacteria is able to thrive and reproduce using arsenic, a chemical that's toxic to all other life forms. This is really interesting in my opinion, because it proves that there are many possible environments where life could thrive that we hadn't thought about before, which means we may be able to find life in other planets with conditions totally different from Earth's. So, what do you think about this amazing discovery? :) Also, here's the source of the article, in case you're interested: http://www.nasa.gov/topics/universe/features/astrobiology_toxic_chemical.html

Since my students have been studying astronomy lately, we have been talking about the existence of life outside of the earth. One of my students asked if we were really aliens, that some foreign organism hitched a ride on an asteroid or other space junk, and landed(plummeted) into earth, introducing that organism at just the right stage in our planets development to actually create the life as we know it. I have a pretty smart fourth grader. I just wish all of my students were that interested in any part of school.

It's really nice that some of your students are so interested in such things, in my opinion life (be it its origins or the possibility of it existing outside Earth) is a very interesting subject! Thank you for your reply and take care! :)
